In bringing together artisans from disparate aural planes, one might expect an offbeat, feedback-warped cacophony, shrill to the point of unlistenable. Yet, by inviting Kyle Hollingsworth, keyboardist for eclectic, jam-prone sextet, The String Cheese Incident, and Keri Kelli, wailing rock guitarist of Alice Cooper fame, we were able to make truly beautiful music. Turns out, these musicians have a great deal in common, both with each other and with Stone. We all enjoy turning things up to 11, and that is represented in this collaborative offering, an imperial India pale ale ably backed by Nugget, Comet and Calypso hops, and amplified care of a healthy dry-hopping with Vic's Secret, a new Australian hop, adding citrus and tropical fruit oomph. To give this modern masterpiece some soulful, classic character, we traced the roots of brewing to the days when Old World herbs were used to spice beers, adding in coriander and, a first for us, elderberries. To stand up to that sumptuous spice and blaring bitterness, we added golden naked oats, which are lightly roasted and add body and enhanced mouthfeel to the brew like a steady, unbreakable backbeat to an incendiary jam solo. Sit back, crank the volume and get lost in this operatic incarnation of genres combined in the name of invention.

Rated in July 2014. 22oz bomber pours with a clear copper body that has thin gold edges and supports a light tan head of foam. The aroma offers up grapefruit, tangelo, some mild mango notes and then pleasing earthy tea and spicy nearly dank hops going on in the background. The taste is similar to the aroma where I get bright and rich and deep notes of grapefruit, tangelo, mango and then a grounding earthy tea goodness that provides a frame of reference for the citrusy and tropical juicy hop explosions that are going on. This is just juicy and rich and bitter and flavorful and bitter with hops. Wow! I love it. The 9% ABV is big and well hidden away in the depths. I need more of this. Wow!

Clear copper coloured pour. Medium sized bubbly head dissipates quickly. Minimal slick lacing. Very strong pine and kind of solvent aroma. Nice oily mouthfeel. Pine is strong in the flavour too. Assisted with lemon, orange peel, pineapple a tad of spice and caramel. Very good. Hit the spot but got no elderberries.

A cloudy copper colored beer with a big sudsy textured, off white head rising above. There's excellent hang time on the head. It settles into an impressive thick lacing of film, ringlet and cap. Citric hopped nose. Nice marriage of bready malt, citric hops, coriander and tart berry. A little resiny but overall a very good drink.

Sampled on 6/30/2014. This double IPA pours a medium gold color from a 22oz bottle. Medium to large sized white foamy head. The aroma is grapefruit, citrus, tropical, malty and sweet. Touch of coriander and elderberry. A medium to full bodied Imperial India Pale Ale. The malts are fruity and sweet. The hops are grapefruity, piney and citrusy. Lively carbonation. Lots of hops in this one, which is so surprising in a Stone beer, decently bitter throughout, with a nice lingering hops bitterness. Nicely balanced. Not sure how much the coriander and elderberry adds or doesn’t add to this beer, but it is an interesting addition. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and crisp. Aftertaste is bitter.

A hazy, deep, orange to copper colored body with a thin, foamy, off-white head that leaves some ringed lace bands around the glass. Aromas of sweet tropical fruit, berries, orange peel, hop resin, and toasty malts. Flavors are berry and tropical fruit forward, with a tangy sweet and resinous undertones. The body is medium with a resinous and tangy fruit sweet aftertaste. Overall a rather nice beer, especially the aroma.

Pours a clear, coppery amber with a thick and frothy ivory head. Strong, hoppy aroma has a firm resiny note with woody and malty underpinnings. Bold, hoppy flavor is somewhat bitter, like green wood, but not too bitter - evergreen, a little woody, with fruity and malty notes. Firm texture has a nice woody fizz that is not strong but persists. Collect this distortion.

Sweet and nearly shockingly bitter. Hop oils galore on the nose, feel and flavor. Very fresh. Citric and oily. Elderberries are buried but the coriander comes through a bit, especially in the dry for a beer of this size finish. Nice treat for the unapologetic hop lover. Not sure if their prices are climbing or this was an anomaly...
