Rated in Dec. 2009. Courtesy of jdubFL. Pours deep mahogany with thin off white head. The aroma has dusty dark coffee, burnt malts, some black strap molasses and coconut. The taste has up front coconut moving into coffee, chocolate and black strap molasses. Pretty nice porter.

My 2nd (or maybe 3rd, not exactly sure) time with the Stone collaboration series. I enjoyed this one very much. Aroma has a huge coffee punch, coffee with just a smidge of toasted bread/coconut. Flavor showcases the chocolate malts, and it was really hard to pick up any coconut-y goodness. Really reminded me of a Kaluha cake batter. I really like it, but the coconut/macadamia flavors (which can be rather delicate) seemed buried. Maybe fresh it’s a different story? Nice beer though and would buy again. -

it's rare when a beer you've built up exceeds expectations, and since Stone is my favorite brewer, hopes were sky high for this one. not to worry, though, it did not disappoint. one of the best, if not THE best, porter that i've ever had. the aroma was incredibly rich and decadent. coffee, chocolate, roasted malt...with flavor to match and a wonderfully smooth full body. Awesome, awesome, awesome beer!

Very anticipated Beer Number 7 of my 12 Beers of Christmas. Mahogany black pour with an initial medium head that dissipates to a creamy ring leaving a fair amount of lacing. Rich black coffee aroma with a strong cocoa presence and some nuttiness. Mouthfeel is creamy. Rich black coffee along with exquisite dark chocolates in the flavor which also includes some coconuts and macadamia nuts, a pinch of licorice and a warming goodness. Huge nice collaboration beer. I thoroughly enjoyed this one since I love black coffee, macadamia nuts and coconut and glad I found some @ Belmont Party Supply in Dayton, OH on my last oHIo Beer Run. Another one marked off the wish list...

First of all, I'm amazed at how similar the bottle design is to the Alesmith/Mikkeller/Stone tripel. This beer is very black, almost motor oil black with a tight thin ring of a head. The aroma is all about the Kona coffee...sure there's some roasted malt and licorice in the mix, but defionitely the coffee. The flavour is a little different with the roasted malt being strong along with the coffee, but the cocount is trying to make an appearance, and does. All in all, a very good beer.

Sampled on 10/7/2009. This imperial porter pours a eclipse black color form a 12oz bottle. Small to medium sized tan foamy head with nice retention and good lacing. The aroma is chocolate and coffee, with some nuttiness and fruit. A medium to full bodied Imperial Porter. The malts are chocolate and coffee, nice roasted malt flavors. The hops are floral. The coffee flavors are big and bold and very upfront. The coconut and macadamia flavors show up later and are kind of subtle. The coconut more in the middle, and adds a nice sweet roastiness to the coffee. The macadamia appear more at the finish, with that nice sweet nutty flavor. Everything balances very nicely and is very smooth tasting. A great sipping beer. There is just the slight touch of alcohol bit at the finish. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter with some nuttiness.
