Dark pour with no head or lacing. Had a rich malty flavor and was pretty sweet. I never would have believed this was a scottish ale. Had a touch of the cough medicine flavor that was present in the awful dunkelweizen. I wouldn't go back to this one.

Had this one in early 2005 with a colleague from Germany. Poured standard dark brown with red tinted edges. Mouthfeel was thin and the flavor was somewhat sweet with burnt coffee shining through. I'd have it again, but I wouldn't seek it out.

I had this in a sampler at the SPringfield, PA brewpub. After reading the previous two reviews, I'm surprised to have to say this was one of my least favorites of the brewery. Had a dark brown color without much lacing or head. Caramel flavor. A little too light in body. I wasn't impressed, though it was the 5th one I tried so it's possible I missed some subtleties.

Sampled from the growler two days after the fill. Pours a dark ruby reddish brown, with a nice head that diminishes to a film quickly, but leaves nice lacing. Aroma is peat smoked, chocolate notes, and very sweet. Starts of smooth, malty sweet, chocolaty, lightly roasted, a bit smoky, and some nice, although subtle hop bitterness. One of the better Harvard beers I've had so far.

Springfield, PA location... Poured a velvety brown color with a small off white head. Coffee and roasted malt aroma. Amazing coffee, smokey peaty taste. Almost perfect, but alittle thin.
