Pours dark chocolate with a thick tan head. Aroma features roast malt, tart & sour stonefruit, a hint of coffee. Flavor provides roast malt, tart stonefruit and coffee. Texture yields decent body & peppy fizz. Craft beer is metal.

750 ml bottle, batch #15, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 9.3%, OG 1085, FG 1015, IBU 44. Pitch black colour (one of the darkest beers I’ve seen), large and impressive head with colour somewhere between coke grey and brown. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee, leather and chocolate, mixed with acidic and "farmhouse" notes of brettanomyces. The flavour is rich and medium sweet, with some fruity acidity, but is first and foremost dominated by roasty notes of coffee, hints of dark bitter chocolate and black pepper. Great stuff.

Shared at KnoxBeerCrew tasting. Near black pour, dark and heavy, short tan head, light lacing. Big roasted malt aroma melded with a slight funk and barnyard yeasty presence. Flavor mimics the nose with predominately a stout with underlying funk. Nice and different.

Honestly, even though there is a whole nother sour version of this, one could consider this a sour stout. tart and peppery aroma, atop layers of roasted malt, dark fruit, licorice, alcohol... Good enough and intriguing enough to make me really want to try the regular...which ironicaly, i thought this was.

Back to back tastings with the original Black Metal, and this one was thoroughly better. A deeper flavor profile and thicker, cleaner feel. A whole bunch of burnt & roasted sweet malts with chocolate coffee, dark berries and peat.

A nice twist to the original, the yeast gives it a nice fruitiness with a touch of spice. The usual suspects of roasted malts, alcohol and chocolate are still here. Overall a nice brew 4 sure.
