wow, the ratings for this one are all over the place. Surprisingly, i'm going to be closer to the top on this one - i thought it was a very tasty beer. based on the lackluster Menage Cherry Frog (2.9) that was based on this brew, i wasn't expecting much from this one, but i'd dropped $14 on a 750 at the SF Rogue Aleshouse before having the cherry. Well, I think the cherry substantially took away from the flavor of the original brew. the aroma was a touch boozy, but had sweet malt and belgian yeast and spices, alongside a fruity character. the feel was great. slightly thick, but not cloyingly so-went down smooth. the flavor was a fairly complex sweet mix of malt, yeast, bubblegum, candy, and subtle belgian spices. nice finish and nice beer. well done.

NICE. Seriously, this is the BEST triple I've had brewed in the US. Barnyard BS. Barnyard my a$$. This gives Chimay triple a run for its money. Taste it. Taste it again. Forget it is a Rogue (which btw, have they really EVER disappointed you????) This is nice nice nice, great great great. Buy it. Drink it. Terrific all around!

Pours with a fairly hazy, orangish-gold color and is topped by a frothy, initially two-finger thick, light tan colored head. The aroma is nicely spicy and is a mix of orange zest, earthy coriander, hay, grassy herbal notes. Also mixed in with the spice notes are some fruit aromatics; aromas of aromatic apple varietals, tart plums and something like fresh picked sauvignon blanc or chardonnay grapes. Behind the more noticeable notes of spice and fruit is a solid malt character that evokes thoughts of soda crackers, fresh cracked biscuit malt, grassy grain and some soft honey-like notes. Actually as I delve more into the aroma the malt becomes much more apparent here; this really ahs a nice, almost even mix of yeast character, malt, fruit and spice notes.

Soft & almost creamy up front, the carbonation is fairly light as well. The beer has a medium fullness to it that clings to the palate just a bit. The creaminess is likely contributed by the substantial sweetness found in this beer; I wouldn't quite say that it is cloying, but it is getting there. The sweetness really accentuates flavors of honey, concentrated apples, raisins, Muscat grapes and even some notes akin to kiwi and star fruit (though not the tart portion of these fruits). This finishes with a spicy, alcohol warmed, slightly astringent, grassy hop driven, light hop bitterness, yet still sweet character.

This could certainly use a bit more carbonation as it would help to temper the sweet, fruity notes, but it would also help to lighten the body up. I think that a lot of the apparent sweetness is contributed by the substantial fruit flavors, such that this brew drinks a bit sweeter than it actually is. Still, I am enjoying the complexity of this brew; it really has a nice mix of malt, yeast, spice & fruit character.

I noticed some abbey like character first form the yeast. Grassy, soapy notes and some candy sweetness in the back end. Actually a very smooth beer. Slightly heavier than a real abbey tripel... A little crisp. Saaz hops work there way in at a good level its nice to see Rogue stepping out and using different ingredients

A golden colored beer with a large head. A lemon and perfume aroma. The flavor is somewhat sour with more lemons and some vanilla notes. The mouthfeel is rather creamy. Tripels just dont start my dog I guess.

An abbey trippel, are you kidding me? Geez, this was more of a sour/tart farmhouse beer than any abbey anything???? Poured a golden clear color (filtered?) with a thin white head. Aroma was funky, barnyard, lemons, grapes. The flavor was funky, grapes, apples, pears, black pepper, more of a saison imo. Totally caught me off guard pretending to be a tripel. Yeast, where are the yeasties? Mouthfeel was light, crisp, dry. Would have scored higher as a saison.

Poured a hazy, golden color with a small, white head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma was yeasty, earthy, spicy, with citrus, and a bit of buttercream as well. Really nice aroma, took a down-turn after sipping. Infected with lactobacillus, even though this was bottled in the past 6 months... and corked and capped! Light toffee and toasted dough up front, quickly turns south, with green apple, tart citrus, and a bit of vanilla. Disappointing.
