Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6
Pour was deep dark brown to black color with some mahoganey edges when held to light. Head was weak and the brew had lower carbonation levels, especially relative to the doppelbock. Aroma was deep dark fruits over top of the standard doppelbock that was vinous, chocolate-malty, black-patent licorice too. Flavor followed the aroma but this was a bit too sticky malty and sweet to be outstanding. Some caramel, bready, brown sugar, and maple notes emerged, although this fell short of the soy sauciness of SA's TB. Mouthfeel was slightly syrupy, sticky, low carbonation. Neat experience, but not a great brew.
