2006 Limited Edition Innis & Gunn are delighted to present the 2006 Limited Edition. This year we have chosen to oak-mature a style of beer that is darker, with a chocolate character from the roasted barley in the recipe, and aromatic, thanks to the use of zesty Slovenian hops. Available in Waitrose (UK) and in the LCBO, Ontario, Canada. Colour: Ruby Palate: Devilishly luxurious, rich chocolate character with a flourish of zesty hop complemented by mellow oak Finish: Rounded and satisfying, biscuit malt giving way to orange marmalade.

Picked this four pack up,poured a full top, great carbonation. The oak comes through nicely, nicely balanced beer.Roasted malts, and oak comes through well.I found if you let this beer warm up to room temp the rum really comes through.Great brew.I might savor one beer on occasion, this beer should age nicely.

I saw this at the liquor store and had to try it. The blue and white box (Scotland's national colours I might add) added to my decision. The beer poured a dark reddish brown into the glass with a small creamy white head. The aroma was a combination of malt, and roasted nuts. The flavour was balanced between the roasted malt, and a little bit of hoppy bitterness.

Bottle: Poured a clear deep brown color ale with a small bubbly head that disappeared quickly. Aroma of light oak and whisky is quite strong and dominant. Taste is dominated by the bourbon with some small traces of peat malt and oak. Body is kind of light for the style with some low carbonation. While this is an interesting experience from a UK brewer, the whisky is too dominating and since I’m not a big fan of whisky I can’t say that I will be seeking this again in the future.

2006 Limited Edition, limited to 40 000 bottles. Comes in a nice blue box listing it was aged 154 days. Pours a dark red colour with a bit of orange in it. The head is creamy, off-white, with excellent retention and fat lacing. Very lively carbonation that is found in great beers. The nose is a mix of dark fruits, chocolat and citrus sourness. Mildly syrupy mouthfeel. The taste is pretty mild too, definitely not showing the alcohol. Smooth taste of roasted malt, hop and oak. Nice to be one of the only places on earth to get this one, but I still prefer their normal (not limited edition) brew.

Package: 330ml embossed bottle in a spiffy royal blue presentation box. Appearance: The pour puts a luxurious glowing ruby-orange ale in the glass with a sticky frothy 2 finger off white cap which lasts well and laces. Aroma: Wonderful nose to this one: Roasted cocoa from the dark malts some vanilla from the oak casks some floral and citrus zip from the hops..deeeelish! Character: Adequate malt spine, silken mouth feel, mellow oaky-chocolate charater. Flavor profile In the front you get massive doses of malt joined immediately with the vanilla tastes the oak inparts then a flood of Slovenian hops washes a zesty floral-lemmon decenment across the tongue...mid palate these tastes develop/mingle/mutate...you get whisps of smoke, coffee, cocoa, raisin bread, sharper tones like metal, lime peel, herbs. Then the long wet finish highlights the rich malts giving way to the hops like biting into a fresh biscuit pastry with an orange center and the orange gradually gets stronger and more tart. Some warming from the alcohol and the whole experience leaves you satisfied and comfortable. Impression If the beer has a fault it is that it is so rich you just can’t see slamming back 3 or 4 of these so I adjusted the drinkability rating accordingly...it is still one of the mellowest, rounded beers I have ever tasted but its just so damn rich that you would rather savor than imbibe. A great offering. Barrel aged beers rule!
