Our IPA and Stout converge for a really great flavor combination to create a rich and robust black & tan. The assertive hoppy character of our Hoppin to Heaven IPA is perfectly complimented by the intense deep roasted flavor of our BORIS Oatmeal Imperial Stout. Two great tastes that taste even better together.

Bottle, kindly shared by gunnar. ABV is 7.6%. A blend of 67% IPA and 33% stout. Black colour, moderate beige head. Nice aroma of fruity American hops, just a hint of roastiness. Pleasant roasty and very hoppy flavour.

Aroma is strongly hoppy, with a background of smoky, oily mocha and hints of charred wood and brown sugar. It pours a lovely dark-chocolate brown with a VERY thick light tan head that hands around for a bit and leaves some substantial lacing. Flavor has the hoppiness and grapefruit hint of a good IPA, and the roast quality coffee, unsweet chocolate and molasses tones of a good stout. The disparate flavors do not fight, but complement each other very nicely. It has hints of both hoppy bitterness and molasses sweetness that are nicely balanced. Texture is smooth and tingly, leaving behind both subtle hop bitterness and a whisper of sweetness, as well as a fairly persistent fizz. The stout and IPA elements are all very good, and the mixture of 2/3 IPA and 1/3 stout makes them balance very well. I love both stouts and IPAs, and this beer has the best of both worlds. Bodacious indeed!

Medium to dark brown in color with a half inch thick head and some spots of lacing. Fruity aroma of citrus hops along with some toast and nuts. Medium bodied with a solid bitterness, finishes slightly creamy. Buttery, hoppy taste that’s coupled with some roasted malts. Notes of citrus and pine as well as mild coffee and ice tea. Didn’t really stand out as much as I was expecting. The blending of these two beers didn’t seem to meld that well.

Bottle from Julio’s Liqour in Mass. Pours with a dark brown body topped by a medium thick, tan head with a good amount of lacing left behind. It’s slightly sweet yet bitter and hoppy with nice piney notes and a roasted coffee/chocolate finish. Nice. Medium to full bodied and slightly warming.

Re-rate, 10/07: Dropped a couple of notches this time through, bottle shared by slob. Hardly anything IPA noticeabout this one, the only bitterness being faint and more seemingly from the roasted malts than the hops. Pretty close to a black pour, also, maybe 1/3 ipa, 2/3 stout? Chocolate elements dominated with some roast also present. Decent, but not nearly as great as my original 4.0 experience. Thanks to Bert for sharing! Original rating: Bottle, courtesy crizay. Pours a brown-black color, nice initial, somewhat slow-developing head that sticks around, provides nice lacing. The aroma was choco-cocoa, smooth stout-like stuff going on, not much of the IPA aroma there. Flavor was wonderful, roasted chocolate malts, smooth oats even detectable in this blend, only mild hops, despite being 2/3rds IPA. A beer that beckons my consumption of one of my bottles of BORIS before too long here, I must have it. Mouthfeel smooth, silky, only moderate body, though. Thanks, Chris, a very nice brew.

Thanks to bbb63 for this one. THe aroma is dry, roasty with hints of chocolate. The flavor is definitely roasted malt but finishes with a nice touch of citric hops.
