Our Humboldt County (California) beekeeper takes his bee colonies on an annual pilgrimage to the verdant hills of Humboldt County (Nevada) to pollinate the vast fields of Alfalfa blooming there. Pollinated Alfalfa is grown for seed. The oldest forage crop in the US, Alfalfa is often called the "Queen of Forages" for its nutritive qualities and pleasant flavor. Not suprizingly, mead produced from alfalfa honey displays fundamental honey notes and just a hint of green grass. This latest batch of sparkling Alfalfa mead has initial hints of sweetness but finishes dry, crisp and perfectly balanced.
