When our buddies at Joe Van Gogh Coffee Roasters told us they'd be down to work with us on a barrel-aging project for a special beer we had in mind, we got more than a little excited—these guys make fantastic coffee, and we use their stuff in a number of different beers we make, from our year-round St. Benedict's Breakfast to our seasonal milk stout series, like our Javanog Cream Stout. A lot of folks brew coffee stouts, brown ales, porters and the like with coffee added, so we thought we'd push the envelope a little and brew a malt-forward, unfiltered West Coast IPA with a little more punch than usual from caramel-laden Fantasia hops, then infuse it with over 30 pounds of apple brandy barrel-aged coffee beans roasted just for us by the lovely humans at Joe Van Gogh. Ingredients: 2-Row Pilsner, Caramalt, Crystal 77 malt, Apple Brandy Barrel-aged Coffee Beans, Fantasia & Green Bullet hops Yeast/Cultures: American Ale yeast SRM: 12 Availability: One-off Specialty

Very hazy, orange brown color with a pretty nice foam. Unusual mix of coffee, liquor and hops in this beer. Coffee kind of mellows out the hops, but it's of course a very bitter finish. It's a quality beer, but I'm not really digging it. Certainly not common.
