A very dark beer, as unique as the tradition that created it. Choice aromatic hops, black malt and crystal-clear mountain spring water give this dark beer its distinctive, nutty flavour. The time-tested historic recipe, the classic brewing method and the secret of just enough extra hops make Hartmann's Erbschänk 1550 a satisfying full-bodied beer.

500 ml capped bottle, bought at the brewery, from the label as a Schwarzbier. Poured in the original Hartmann Bavarian Seidla a clear and dark-brown-red coloured Schwarzbier with a generous three fingers dark beige and dense pillowy foamy head that had a very long retention and tons of micro bubbles. Soft carbonation. Poor lacing. The aroma is roasted malts, cocoa powder, caramel and spicy, licorice. The flavour is roasted malts, caramel, dried fruits, nuts, spicy, licorice, notes of chocolate and herbs. The mouthfeel is quite fulled, quite thick and light bitter. The texture is oily. This medium bodied Schwarzbier has a dry roasted malts and light bitter finish. An easy drinkable Schwarzbier , not from East Germany but from Upper Franconia. Although the brewer considers his Erbschänk 1550 as a Schwarzbier, it is from the palate and tne nose more a Dunkel Lager.

Pours out in a clear nut brown colour with a sticky lasting off-white foam. Round malty aroma of caramel, toasted malts, milky chocolate and cream with hints of grassy hops. Medium-bodied with a malty sweet flavour of toasted malts, caramel, nut shells and burnt sugar. Long malty aftertaste of dark bread, caramel, fudge and burnt sugar with touches of minerally hops.
