Originally called "liquid bread," the Dopplebock style guided monks through periods of penitent fasting. Wolfgang has heavenly notes of caramel, dark fruit, and toffee balanced by a subtle hop character. While its revered history evokes and appreciation of austerity and sacrifice, this Dopplebock is a rich luxury - no repentance required.

Aroma definitely gets your attention - strong and malty with a caramel overtone and notes of spice and chocolate plus an earthy hint. Pours a translucent chocolate brown, close to mahogany, with a thick and fairly persistent tan head that leaves some generous lacing. Flavor does not quite equal the promise of the aroma, but is still quite good - malty, bready, subtle notes of caramel, cloves and chocolate. Smooth texture has good body and fizz, and leaves a malty, woody, slightly chocolaty finish. Get this goat!

Not a traditional doppelbock by any means, Dark tanish brown with crimson highlights and a nice 2 inch foamy head and some decent lacing. Roasted malts, bready, dark fruits like rasin, plum. A little chocolate nutty aroma also. Some nice yeasty sweet smells with molasses and burnt sugars.Nice huge flavors of roasty malts and chocolate/caramel flavors. Very sweet, added brown sugars, and molasses. Dark fruits and a little spice add some more flavors. A little hop even comes at the finish. Really tasty.Thick, sweet and tons of flavor. Wow this is nice. Sweet, easy to drink, and packs a punch. Alcohol is masked very well. A great beer, one of the best doppels i have had in a long time.

22oz bottle. Pours light ruby brown with a small light tan head that quickly goes to a thin film that leaves a little lacing.

The aroma is sweet caramel / toffee and chocolate malts with a little fruit and smokiness.

The flavor is sweet nutty caramel malts with some dark fruits and some smokey alcohol in the finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with smooth carbonation.

Overall, a nice rich and sweet doppelbock.

A deep amber-brown colored beer with a decent frothy textured off white head. There's some hang time on the head. Settles into a thick film and moderately sized ringlet. Bready, licorce notes. Thick, syrupy. Grows on you.

Super nice malty aroma and flavor. Breadline, yes, but it is also distinctly Great Divide. They have a common theme with their malty stuff that I absolutely love, though strict traditionalists may cringe. If you like Hibernation, you'd like this.
