Pours an insane amount of foamy creamy brownish head and has a pretty dark brown appearance. Nice thick sticky lacing. Aromas of dark roasted malt, coffee and subtle chocolate notes. Flavours are also quite malty and sweet, some notes of toffee, faint smokey hints. Also some spices but quite subtle. Very smooth and silky sensation on the palate. Good retention and mouthfeel. Not too bad.

Pours a dark, opaque sable with a tan head of average thickness and persistence. Rich aroma is fruity, malty and smoky with a firm coffee undertone. Strong, smoky flavor has undertones of fruit and caramel without being too sweet. Texture is smooth, tingly and fizzy. Worth finding.

Big flavoured black beer. Tan head reduced but remained persistent. Lots of good stuff going on with aroma and flavour. Dark chocolate, burnt coffee, dark fruits, bit of spice and smoke. Quite a bitter finish that lasts. Medium sticky and creamy mouthfeel, although not too sweet. Lots of good beers out there to try but I would have this one again.

The beer poured a brownish-black with a thin light brown head which lingered a while. The aroma was roasted malt, coffee, dark chocolate, and vanilla. Mouthfeel is full bodied, creamy, and medium carbonated. The flavour is dark chocolate, roasted nuts, and coffee. -

Bottled November 26, 2010 and pours a dark, almost black, colour with red highlights. The head is huge, creamy, beige coloured with great retention and thick lacing. Aromas of burnt malt, coffee, sour berries, dark fruits, with notes of chocolate and vanilla. Medium-bodied with a wet-creamy mouthfeel. Roasted malt taste with molasses, coffee, good bitterness, and no burn at all. Quite a nice smooth Imperial Stout with lots of character.

Went to a Grand River tasting at a friend's house this past weekend and found a lot of very good beers, but nothing truly outstanding. A jet black beer with a creamy dark brown head. Lots of roasted coffee in the aroma, a little vanilla, and a little chocolate. Creamy to the tongue with ample bitterness from the coffee and dark chocolate notes.

Pours black with a small bubbly tan head, light lacing, a small layer of foam sticks around for 20 minutes or so then disappears. Aromas of roasted malt, coffee. Flavour is dark, roasted, nutty, with a medium mouthfeel and low carbonation. Goes down easy for a 8%. Overall a good tastty stout but coulda been bigger on the palette in my opinion.

Bottle: Poured a light black color stout with a large brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of light roasted malt notes with hints of dry raisins. Taste is a balanced mix between some roasted malt with vinous notes and a dry raisin finish. Body is too thin for style with good carbonation and no signs of alcohol. Not bad and interesting side of vinous/dry raisin notes but body is too thin for style.

I waited to do this review until I sampled this both on tap and bottled. There is a difference and I have to say when this is fresh I prefer the bottled version.>>>>>>> Appearance: Served at 45deg.F this pours a light-defying black ale in the thistle with a creamy 2 finger mocha colored cap. This cap reduces to about 1 finger and lasts the drink. Moderate carbonation.>>>>>>> Aroma: Coca, roasty cereal husks, burnt toffee, figs and leafy hops...a light earthiness very nice.>>>>>>>> Flavor profile: Front end has a rich flood of malty toffee tastes mingling with dried fruits and cocoa.....mid palate some complexity as the balance starts; cherry pipe tobacco, nuts, spice and dried fruit riding just above the lush bittering hops....finishes cocoa-bitter and roasty...great stuff!>>>>>>>> character and impression: Rich oleophilic mouth feel, massive malt spine, toasty-toffee-bitter profile. One of the best domestic RISs I’ve tasted. Rich, flavourful, well balanced, satisfying. ......too bad a few kegs could not be cold stored and sampled mid winter 2010 as I plan to do with some of the bottles I stored.
