Our Beardmore Kölsch is a clean and crisp lagered ale. It is delicately balanced, with subtle hints of fruity notes. It has a pleasant and refreshing finish on the palette. What’s in the name? George Beardmore had a high vision for a small tannery he purchased in Acton, Ontario in 1856. By 1899 the tannery had grown to an impressive one million square feet. The iconic Beardmore & Co. water tower stood high above the many buildings that covered the 160-acre site. At its peak, it was the largest tannery in the entire British Empire! We’re sure many workers at the tannery enjoyed a cool, refreshing beer after their long work day…if only its was our Beardmore Kölsch.

Tall can from LCBO. Pours an average size frothy white head with some thick dirty lacing and has a pale golden appearance. Lively carbonation. Aromas of barley malts, wheat, grassy and herbal hops. Flavours are mostly malty, some bready and light cereal malt, very subtle citrus and grassy notes, a little bit wheaty as well. Slight drying mouthfeel. Not bad.

Pours a clean golden colour with a frothy white cap, good retention and some thick foamy lacing. I do smell wheat giving mild banana notes. With time, some hops do come out. The same for flavours, with a blend of the cereal malts felt in Kolsch. The hops help out the sweetness that I am not really used to in this style, but still - a little too rich with the wheat, as it lingers a bit.

The beer pours a slightly hazed burnished gold colour with a thin creamy white head which lasts several minutes. Aroma is grains, noble hops, and yeast. The mouthfeel is medium bodied, very crisp, with average carbonation. The flavour is grainy malt to start and a nice bitter hop finish.I enjoyed this. I don’t often enjoy things from Georgetown!
