The 2002 version was lighter in colour that the previous versions, and the Goldings treatment gave an extra bit of added aroma and flavour that were lacking the last couple of years.

This seems to be aging quite well.. . loads of toffee and caramel, with a big oily biscuit aftertaste . .. do you wanna eat my fat? i think you know the answer to that .. . The theonly nagative is the mouth is going a bit, thinning out if you will .. It is what it is, ..folks!

(Bottle # 23359)Amber with hints of blood red and orange colour. Small white head. Rich deep malty aroma of oak, toffee, caramel and dark fruit. Small undertones, of candied, cherries, pepper and alcohol. Rich chewy malty flavour of almonds, oak, raisin, and dried dark plums with a small port note. Smooth and clean mouthfeel. Raisin, bitter almonds, rum and blue plums in the aftertaste.

I think this is one of the best beers I have ever tasted. It is a beer to enjoy like a good single malt, in a comfortable chair, gently sipping it and really letting it overwhelm you. It has a beautiful brown-orange colour, and light lacing. The taste is so complex, at first you cannot believe it. Dried fruit, caramel, vanilla, chocolate, and with a good bitterness.

Bottled. Hazy reddish orange, beige mediumsized head. Strong chocolate and dry fruit in aroma along with grassy hints. Strong malt, caramel and alcohol in flavour with hints of hayish dryness, grassyness and papery hints. Very complex and full flavour. Pleasant and smooth palate. Malts, caramel, hay and alcohol in the long aftertaste.

sampled 04/2005 - clear pale red-amber colour, the foam quickly disappears, very malty aroma, nuts and bread, cherry, full-bodied, sweet and oily, very bitter, dry and long malty finish - looks quite raw and with a huge potential

Nice clear orange brown color with a dense head and nice lacing. Taste is full bodied with a nice sweetness of malts and flavors of vanilla, tea and clove. This stuff is worth the fancy packaging it deserves.

Bottle # 15601... Poured a caramel color with a very small off white head, with very light lacing on the glass. Aroma of apples, plums, spice, nuts and caramel malts. Taste was more sweet malts and spices, nuts, a tart citrus hoppiness, and a light alcohol.
