Session Black is short, dark and totally drinkable. The initial tastes are a subtle pairing of caramel and chocolate malt flavors with precise hopping to provide an elegant citrus background to the delicate finish of dark cocoa.

Pours a deep coppery brown with a decent, if not persistent, pale tan head. Malty aroma has a caramel undertone and a hint of coffee. Firm flavor is mainly malty plus notes of caramel and coffee of typical quality, as well as just a hint of cloves. Body is about average, though there is a decent amount of fizz. Yes, a good sipping beer, to sample now and then whilst taking in a good book or hobnobbing at a party.

Pours a dark brown not black without any head. I smell barley malt and what I think is caramel. Mouthfeel is a little thin and so is the taste. Nothing here very special but still pretty good.

Pours a very dark brown with no head to think of. Well carbonated and is very clear. Aroma is of heavy roasts and chocolate with a tad bit of coffee. Taste is a tad strong with hints of roasted malts, smoke, and chocolate. Finishes off with a coffee dryness. Good cheap beer.

Nice stubby bottle for this brew. A midnight black pour with a thin brown head. Aroma is roasted malt, a lot of nutty aromas, as well as coffee and chocolate. Flavour meshes very well with this beer with the roasted tones going over very well.

I like the idea of having a craft "session" beer but I don't like the fact that this is priced as high as many other (better) craft beers such as Sierra Nevada, Summit and Sam Adams (and is only 11 oz compared to 12 oz per bottle for the others). This beer is pretty average and I might drink it more often but only if it was at the same price point as the macros.

Black appearance with tan head. Aroma is chocolate, licorice, and some coffee. Flavor is a bit bitter with some coffee, chocolate, and licorice. I usually enjoy this style and this beer was overall a nice one.

Had this at the brewery in Hood River last weekend. Dark brown nearly black color without much head and a little bit of lacing. Malty aroma, a little toasted. Smooth body without much carbonation. Light body. Flavor is mostly malty with a hopier finish I didn't love. Not a beer for me.

Mouthfeel maybe slightly better, but aroma on this one was slightly skunky....so all around about the same as their regular lager, but with chocolate malt added. A tad thin for a black lager, if using Sammy's Black Lager as a benchmark...which I seem to like a lot more than this. Lacking a full flavor, both on malt and hops end. Appearance more like a dark brown versus black. Wanted to sample a single of this first b/c they have this at Whole Foods for $12.99/12-pack. Think I will pass though and go another route. I actually am liking this better towards the end, so may give another chance if purchasing a 12 for a party or something...or some kind of daytime event. Wondering if Yuengling's Black and Tan is a better choice for less.

pretty much what i expected from this one. a session ale as advertised, nothing more, nothing less. there's obvious quality to this brew, but it's nothing to go out of your way for. a little dry, well balanced chocolate malt and hops.
