We are proud to introduce our third cider flavor. We had always known that we wanted to have a cider that was darker in color and allowed us to explore the influence of another fruit. We also knew that we didn’t want to tread on the mass produced peach, raspberry, or just plain berry flavored ciders because the examples of these ciders in the market don’t match our drier more traditional style of cider making. After countless hours of ‘research’ (Hey Bruce, drink this, what do you think), we think that we have a real winner. A “Black” or “Black Cider” is a traditional cider drink made by adding a splash of currant liquor to a dry pub cider. We cut out the middle man and added the black currant for you. Our beta version of this cider won a silver medal at the California State Fair last month and Sean has really shown his cider making chops with the improvements that were made since that time. Give it a try, you won’t be disappointed.

My second Fox cider. The currants, in this one give it it’s pinkish color. A lot more bubbles in this one. But again no head. The sweetness of the currants is in the nose. The body is light, but crisper than the hard cider. There is a nice play between the sweetness of the currants and the tartness of the apples in the taste. Reaching for a cider? Take Fox’s currant cider over the hard apple.

Really nice for a cider. It maintains a certain dryness without being too dry, yet has enough oomph to carry the black currant/red grape character. Pour is a pinkish/light red color, tons of bubbles and a quickly disappating head. Overall a nice cider, drinkable as a summertime refreshing cider.
