A big Imperial Porter brewed with English Marris Otter and healthy amounts of chocolate malt. Hopped with Northern Brewer and Williamette. Aged in bourbon barrels. Cheers!

Went to Flossmoor Station today for the first time in about 5 years. Had a flight of barrel aged beers, which I thought I could get a growler of. But, alas, none were available in a growler :( . So I picked up several bottles of Big Poppa, which was my favorite of the ones that I tried. Pours an opaque dark brown, black color with a small tan head which leaves a bit of lacing on the glass. Chocolate, roasted malt, bourbon and wood aromas fill my nose. Surprisingly, the bourbon and wood dominate the flavor, with chocolate, deeply roasted malt, vanilla and coffee taking a backseat. Velvety smooth with just the right amount of carbonation. I'm sure that if you are not a bourbon lover, this beer would not be to your liking, as the bourbon flavor is strong and it does pack a little heat. Luckily for me, I am. I think that the second bottle will receive a bit of aging. An interesting find, albeit, a bit pricy. YMMV. UPDATE 2/20/2016. The carbonation has left, leaving the bourbon, chocolate, roasted and malt to carry the aromas and tastes. Still tasty after a year and a half. Well done.
