Here is one half of a 'Black and Tan' beer. Not any Black and Tan, but where a pompous, viscous motherfocker and a laid-back, hoppy guy meets and perfect beer-balance occurs. Mix with Yin Yang, or enjoy this evil Imperial Stout solo.

Bar Hop (Toronto, Ontario, Canada)
The beer pours a solid black colour with a 1" thick dark brown frothy head. The aroma is roasted malt, licorice, coffee, and dark chocolate. The mouthfeel is full bodied with average carbonation, and a bit of chalkiness. The flavour is roasted malt, molasses, cocoa, and hints of plums. An excellent stout. -

12 oz bottle. Pours dark brown with a medium creamy brown head that retains well and laces the glass.
The aroma is a little subdued - roasted chocolate malts and some black licorice and a little smoke.
The flavor is some sweetness up front with heavily roasted chocolate malts and some dark fruit and black licorice. There's lots of charred bitterness in the aftertaste. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied, but a bit watery.
Overall, it's got too much charred bitter roast. -

The beer pours out a dense black body, creamy brown head. Aroma is dominated by mocha and light alcohol. Tons of roasted malts, and just a little too much black malt used, because I get an ashy-tarry like profile that is off-putting and alcohol seems to amplify the ashy finish. Not bad. -

Absolutely loved this smooth ass stout. Lots of roast and cocoa and a bit of molasses perhaps. Awesome feel-easy to put down for 10%. Tried as a black n tan too but just the stout was better. I'll get this again.

Bought a bottle of this at Pinocchios a few weeks ago. Black liquid with a thick and very brown head. Aroma is a solid roasted malt sweetness with hints of spice and alcohol, yet not surprising for 10% abv. Fairly smooth and soft with a mild alcohol burn. A little chocolatey with a dry finish and maybe some oak. This is a pretty simple beer but very tasty.

Draught@CPH BF 2011. Quite much pitch black colour, small brown head. Aroma is toffee, grass, some toasted notes as well as liquorice. Flavour is roasted malts, mild toasted notes, some fruity and alcoholic notes as well.

330 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 10%. Pitch black colour, impenetrable for light. Moderate brown head. Strong roasty aroma, coffee, liquorice and leather, very good. Very roasty flavour, notes of strong coffee and plenty of liquorice, slightly salty finish. Dark chocolate in the aftertaste. The bitterness is not extreme - but that will change if Yin is mixed with double IPA Yang, as recommended.

Strong, oily aroma is smoky with nutty and roast coffee tones, very tempting. It pours black as midnight with a thick, fine-bubbled, dark tan head - most appetizing. Smoky flavor fills the mouth with roast coffee, licorice, unsweet chocolate, nuts and a hint of oak. Texture is silky smooth, on the thick side, and subtly fizzy, but the tingle that it leaves behind on the lips and tongue persists for a while. Recommended!
