If you’ve followed Westbrook or Evil Twin‘s social media presence recently, you knew this was coming … but it’s still pretty awesome to know it’s happening: Brewvival 2013 favorite Imperial Doughnut Break is coming to bottles. Last year, Evil Twin’s Jeppe stuffed whole donuts into a keg of Imperial Biscotti Break and tapped it for the masses. It was well received, and the brewer recently returned to Westbrook to brew the beer on a much larger scale, cramming more than 1,000 donuts into the brew. Get your insulin shots ready, and expect to see this one on shelves soon.

    Nov. 2014: Sample on tap at What’s Brewing Beer Festival, Stavanger. Black colour, tan head. Chocolate and vanilla in the aroma. Medium sweet flavour, chocolate and vanilla galore, some roasty coffee notes in the finish.

    Pours a rich black-coffee sable with a thick dark tan head. Bold aroma has strong coffee, earthy, chocolate, nutty and molasses notes - and more than a hint of sugary doughnut. Flavor is not for the faint of heart, or of palate! Quality coffee, molasses, semi-sweet chocolate, and earthy nutty notes gallop across the taste buds, leaving a syrupy and sweet but not cloying finish that has mocha and woody hop tones. Texture is very viscous and has a persistent tingle. Sip this one slowly - this is a rich beer, almost like a liquid doughnut.

    I had this beer on draft at TØRST in Brooklyn, New York. Another Evil Twin gem - might actually be just as good (if not better in certain cases) than the product put out by his twin brother Mikkel of Mikkeller. In any event, this beer gets insane points for appearance. DARK AS NIGHT. I used the LED light on my iPhone and got zero light penetration. The original standard for opacity was a candle flame - this thing was impenetrable - wonderful. The flavor was great - some chocolate malt but a lot of tobacco and licorice. The aroma was in line with the flavor. I'd love to have this again - VERY NICE JOB!

    Near-black brown pour with a tall frothy tan head, leaving copious amounts of lacing. Rich roasted malts, light molasses and brown sugar, some breadiness, more malts and malt sweetness, sweet flavor but not overly sweet. Nice roasted finish. Big beer for certain.
