Poured into a beautiful copper color with a nice couple inch head. Strong aroma of raisins and plums. Very fruity tasting, more like a port. It didn't taste as malty as I was expecting, but the strong alcohol was warming and perfect for the very cold evening. As it warmed the hops started to come forward in aroma and taste. I love this beer and will look for it again.

Rated Feb. 2007. 11.2oz bottle poured a clear copper with off white head that vanished in seconds. Nice strong malty and dark fruit aroma. I get semi sweet caramel, dates, plums, alcohol and a slight hint of olives. This has a nice rich mouth feel. At the start I get a slight hint of olive, some tasty caramel and solid dark fruitiness. By midway the caramel sweetens and builds. Beyond midway the fruitiness takes over somewhat with growing alcohol warmth in the background. All of the flavor notes listed on the label really came true for me. This beer just reached out and gave me a warm hug.

Malty sweet tangerine-like aroma. Brown and reddish body. Thin head skims the top. Thick warming mouth feel. Mild sweetness. Fruit and caramel sweet. Medium bitter.

EKU 28 has a thin, beige head and a clear, amber appearance, with some lacing and tiny streaming bubbles. The aroma is rich: heavy, sweet, caramel malt, toffee, vegetable, sugar, and grain. Taste is alcohol forward, with a background of sugar, caramel candy, black bread, and syrup. There is also a little bit of bitterness, but not much. Mouthfeel is thick, sticky, and heavy, and EKU 28 finishes mostly dry and boozy.

A huge malt bomb with tons of fizz to make it go down easy. Smells of caramel, butter, sugar and alcohol. Flavor is more of the same sticky sweetness, a slow sipper to be sure, like a good barley wine.

Deep brownish-copper pour with absolutley no head, lacing or carbonation. Strongly sweet with intense vanilla and malts. A winter beer, no doubt. Alcohol is masked fairly well. Oddly sticky to the pallette.

Pours clear dark copper, no head. Mouth is alcohol and sweet. Flavor is interesting - definitely a winter warmer. I think this might go well with the right cigar.

THis beer will supposedly stand in for sherry or port......not based on my experiences with sherry or port. A clear copper coloured beer with a generous head. Sweet malt, hops, sugar, and alcohol are all in the aromatic mix. A little sweet in the end, with a mid bitterness, not something to drink every day.

this isn't quite my prefered method to get a high abv, but it's ok on a cold wintry night. sweet and heavy, fruity, with some malts and barely noticed hopping. not something i'd go out of my way for.

Pours a nice clear coppery-red with a fairly thick, pale yellow head that does not stick around. Aroma is strong and more fruity than malty, not at all like a beer with such a high alcohol content. Flavor has a fairly fierce but not overwhelming alcohol bite; taste is mainly sweet and fruity with an undertone of caramel, more like liquor than beer. Aftertaste is sweet without being cloying.

Very malty aroma with a hint of alcohol. First taste mimics a single malt scotch whiskey. Color is a brilliant cupric hue beconing the imbiber to sample its ware. A good sipper to enjoy after a romantic interlude.
