Too extreme to be called beer? Brewed to a colossal 45°P, boiled for a full 2 hours while being continually hopped with high alpha American hops, dry-hopped every day in the fermenter for a month, and aged for a month on whole leaf hops, 120 Minute IPA is by far the strongest IPA ever brewed. And at ~20 ABV and 120 IBU’s, you can see why we are calling this the Holy Grail for Hopheads.

The beer poured a solid golden-brown with a thin light tan coloured head. The aroma was floral in nature with some sweet malt. The mouthfeel was full-bodied, creamily thick, with medium carbonation. The flavour was sweet malt, maple sugar, with a strong hop flavour. Unlike the 60min and 90min IPAs, this beer is way too sweet, having something of a barleywine feel to it.

Rated May 2006. 03/04/05 bottle date. Poured into small Scotch tulip glass as nearly clear golden-orange color with lasting thin white head and decent lacing. Nice spicy hop aroma while still chilled. First taste impression: fruity, malty, hopy, syrupy with little alcohol presence (that last part is sure to change as the beer temperature rises). Just the right level of carbonation. Aroma still mild as it warms up. Hop bitterness is low in this beer. I think some of what I’m tasting is coming from hop flavor. Yum. The warmer temps have created more alcohol aroma. This does taste a lot like a barlywine. Lingering tastes of sweetness and bitterness in the finish. The sweetness does build up making it difficult to drink more than 4 or so ounces.

Good beer but not as special as it is made out to be. Not much head as expected from such a high abv beer. Head dissipates to a thin cap but lasts. Aroma is sweet, boozy, fruity and pine. Flavour is barleywine like. Quite complex. Sweet caramel malt, honey, pineapple, a touch of smoke, piney and floral. Love the syrupy mouthfeel, which suits the style. Would buy again if it didn't cost so damn much. Ps. This bottle is 4 year old and still prime.

What can I say except that I was scared that all the build up would let me down when I tasted he beer. I usually split it with two or three people but it pours and orangish gold with a nice white head that has a great lacing all the way down. the aroma is of course hoppy, with citrus, floral and pine. It was extremely sweet but what are you to expect from an 18% beer. It is like an after dinner liquor beer and it does live up to the hype.

Bottle, kindly shared by gunnar. Orange to amber colour, low off-white head. Extreme and intense aroma of American hops, on a background of sweet malts. Sweet flavour, too sweet maybe, the sweetness kind of overwhelms the intense hoppiness. Still, this is a top division beer.

It pours a hazy & non-transparent burnt-orange/amber with thin off-white head and copious lace. An aroma of caramel malts, hops, citrus, nuttiness, bread and yeast, peaches, mango, blackberries, and spiciness. The mouthfeel is smooth and rich. Flavors of caramel malts, hops, booze, grapefruit/citrus, peaches/apricots, bread and yeast, and spiciness. Good, but I can't believe I paid 10 dollars for a bottle of it. Way over-priced and way too strong.

12 oz. bottle poured into a Duvel tulip. Pours a hazy amber orange with a smallish head which dissolves into a thin coating. Lacing is probably good considering the ABV. Nose is alcohol, caramel and some citrus - mango, grapefruit, apricots, cherries, and dark fruit. Taste is VERY sweet and boozy. This is an IPA? Raisin, plum, sweet malts and the alcohol burn completely overpowered any hops for me. Mouthfeel is relatively heavy, creamy, and very syrupy. This is much too sweet and boozy for me. It certainly is a unique offering but I will take the 60 and 90 minute over this any day. Here's hoping the 2010 version makes a LOT of changes...

Tried this one a while ago with my "beerpal" thomassova4. From what I remember it was a hazy orange/golden color. To be totally honest, I don't remember too much about the aroma. What I do remember is that this beer tasted nothing like I expected. It was VERY sticky and sweet. Almost nectarish (if that's a word). I didn't find the hops to be overwhelming like I expected, given the bite that the 90 min. has. I'm glad I tried it, but I don't think it's something that I would get again.

THis beer was a bit strong for me, and way too sweet for my liking. Really just overfermented resulting in a glass of alcoholic sugars. I'll probably never try again.

I've looked for this beer at the stores around me for the better part of two years now, and last night I walked into a bar with some friends and saw it listed on the beer list. A bit expensive but I bought it anyways. Smells big on the hops. Mouthfeel is thick, and almost syrupy. Taste is very hoppy as expected, with a citrusy sweet flavor too.
