We named our lager after the great Tom Crean. The local man who, as a member of the Bristish Navy, went on to take part in 3 of 4 Antatirc Expeditions. It was during the Terra Nova Expedition that he undertook a superhuman 18 hrs-35 miles solo trek to save the live of his 2 companions. Tom was a modest man and when he retired from the Navy he come to Annascaul and ran the " South Pole Inn". He truly is a man worth commemorating so heres's to Tom ! Tom Crean's Fresh Irish Lager is brewed with four Natural Ingredients ... Nothing else ! Water - Barley - Hops - Yeast. Water : Our Natural Spring Water from its source on the Connor Pass to our Well at the Brewery, is perfect for brewing our lager. Used in its purest state it is important to start with the finest quality water as it makes up 95 % of all beer. Barley : We use two types of malted barley when brewing Crean's; a Lager Malt which is our base malt and is light in colour and has a slightly sweet taste; and a Cara Malt which gives Tom Crean's a bright golden colour and its distinctive caramelised taste. Hops : The Saaz Hop is a Czech Republic hop typically used in pilsner lagers. Its aroma can be described as a clean, classic, earthy and slightly spiced. It imparts a very delicate flavour to Tom Crean's Lager. Yeast : One of the most important ingredients in lager is the yeast, or Saccharomyces Carlburgiensis. Responsible for converting the sugars to alcohol our German style lager yeast imparts a hint of vanilla. Tom Crean's lager is light on the palette yet full of flavour with a gentle caramel taste which all adds up to a thoroughly enjoyable drinking experience. Great with food, great with music and great with friends Tom Crean's Premium Irish Lager is the perfect accompaniment to a great night.

    Aroma: 10 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

2 * 330 ml capped bottles, bought at the brewery. Poured in the original Tom Crean's tulip pint glass a clear and pale amber coloured Pale Lager with a one finger slight beige and creamy foamy head that had a mid-sized retention and tons of micro bubbles. Sustained carbonation. Poor lacing. The aroma is solid malts, pronounced grassy hops and an undeniable touch of barnyard. The flavour is yeast, sweety and light toasted malts, grainy, bready, butter, caramel notes, grassy hops, faint fruit, citrus and a peppery touch. The mouthfeel is round, light crispy and smooth. The texture is watery. This light bodied Pale Lager has a dry malty finish. A much better feeling ( and a better rating ) with the room temperature as, on place in Dingle, served chilled.
