Sampled cask-conditioned at the Royal Inn, Par, Cornwall.
One of the bigger cask-conditioned beers that I found out-and-about in Cornwall, even if this is actually a Devonish vice Cornish Ale. That having been said, I'm a little of two minds on this one, to be honest.
On one hand, this looked really nice -- reddish/golden-amber, that seemed to catch the light, and reflect it in a multitude of different ways. All capped with a wafer-thin layer of foam, and occasional bubbles making their way to the surface.
But on the other hand, what this beer had going for itself, appearence-wise, tended to get lost in the shuffle of the fact that the aroma and (especially) the flavor profile seemed a little on the bland side of things. Yeah, some distinct yeast-derived notes here and there and everywhere. And a rather typical diaplay in the hop department (Northdown? Fuggles?) -- nothing untoward, but nothing all-that impressive, either.
Not a bad drop of beer, by any means. But this just seemed a little on the hum-drum side of things -- never really making a name for itself, or having anything in particular to say one way or the other...
