Pours a hazy burnt copper. Medium texture, but the flavor full and has a pleasant meaty hoppy charater. Slighly higher ABV, so will take a couple to take the edge off having the "mothers-in-laws" over for the holidays.

Nice mild spice coupled with a hearty rich malt content provide for one tasty Winter Warmer. Body is on the thin side for the style while the flavor is robust enough to keep me interested. Spice content is complimenting rather than dominating as it should be.

Tech Stuff: IBU=30, ABV isn't mentioned on CM's website or label, I've seen 6.5-7.0% cited by various sources. Seat-of-the-pants, I think it's more like 7.0, seems at least 1% "warmer" than OTR's 6%. Poured into a pint glass, developed 3/4" off-white head with mild lacing. It's gone in seconds anyway, but a swirl of the glass will still bring back a pleasant, aromatic foamy line. Mouth feel is a little thin, which seems to be common with CM. First impression is on the sweet side, with a very, very faint chocolate suggestion. As the IBU of 30 suggests, it's more malty than hoppy. Hops aren't absent, by any means, just a subtle spiciness and a little astringency. Like most Moerlein brews, it's very well-balanced. The spice is quite subtle, for the style, but certainly there. Try it if you get a chance. Forget your preconceptions of orange-zest and coriander dominated winter warmers and you'll find a pretty nice brew!
