Barena falls into the traditional yellow colored water category other Latin American beers such as Sol or Dos Equis fall into. I'd rate it as the worst Honduran beer barely edging out Imperial for that distinction.

Cool custom clear glass 35.5cl bottle (that has palm trees as part of the glass mold) pours with a watery clear body that has some gold hues and supports a thin wispy ring of foam. The mild aroma offers up some sugary malts, earthy sugary sweet light skinned fruit fruity esters and on a deep pull a faint blueberry note. The taste begins with sugary sweetness that picks up a bit of malts that has a thick grainy edge. To midway a dash of lemon to lime is noticed as sugary sweetness, sweet malts and a grainy note struggle with each other. Deep beneath the sweetness are faint murmurs of floral to spicy herbal hops. This isn’t horribly over sweet but too much to be enjoyed.

Color is a typical straw yellow with a decent and firm, though typical, white head. Crisp, malty aroma has a fruity undertone, typical for this style. Flavor is malty - and rather insipid. Smooth texture has little body or fizz. OK, I had to try it just for something from Honduras.

Found a special on 4 imports I had never heard of and bought a mixed case with low expectations. Light gold in color. With the clear bottle, I expected some skunkiness but this was rather palatable. Very little aroma and taste is slightly sweet with just a hint of corn and grass. Not great but drinkable, expecially on a warm day.
