The India Ale is a throwback to the times of yore, when kings and bishops ruled, the British armada were constantly threatened by pirates and scurvy, and knights rode on horseback trying to knock each other off with a really big stick. To cope with the stress, British sailors made sure to bring ale with them for the trip south along the African cape as they sailed for months at a time to reach the shores of India. Yep, and you guessed it, that’s where the name India Ale was coined. Over the months it took to sail from Brighton to Bombay, the ale continued to ferment and would develop a strong and bitter character. Often reaching 10% ABV and over 100 IBU, it’s no wonder sailors have a reputation for drinking. But unlike most IPAs out there, our India Ale isn’t so bitter that it knocks you off your bar stool. Tasting Notes Here at Cariboo we don’t wanna be like the rest so we took it down a notch, evolving the classic IPA to make sure you won’t get sea sick only after one. This uniquely Canadian India Ale boasts a balanced hops to malt ratio that lets you enjoy the best of both worlds, old and new. Following strict adherence to the 1516 Bavarian Purity Law, our India Ale uses only the finest barley, hops, water, and yeast to bring you a powerful brew packed with flavorful hops that finishes with a mild bitterness.
