Owner Rich Hennosy thought it was important to establish the Buckeye Lake Brewery brand at first. But craft beer drinkers now are aware of Buckeye Lake -- located in Buckeye Lake -- and Hennosy wants to extend the branding to some of his beers, especially with the brewery looking into bottling. The first brand is Shovelhead 2X IPA, an 8.3 percent hoppy brew that will be released on draft sometime this week -- Hennosy isnIt't sure the specific day -- and also will be served at the Cincy Winter Beerfest in Cincinnati. Hennosy called Shovelhead the hoppiest beer that the brewery has produced. Buckeye Lake made only six barrels, so it will be available on a limited basis. The Shovelhead name comes from the shovelhead catfish that can be found in Buckeye Lake. "It's very hoppy and we were looking for something that would communicate that bigness," Hennosy said. "Shovelhead catfish are in Buckeye Lake and can be up to 50 pounds. It was pretty much a no-brainer when I learned that."

    Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

Pours a brilliant clear orange, with a moderate head that doesn't last very long but provides some lacing. The aroma is like Thai Basil. The taste has no hint of alcohol, but also very little hint of the citrus notes I've come to associate with DIPAs. The mouthfeel is medium bodied. Normally not a fan of DIPAs but this one is far better then any I've had before.
