Winter Bock is originally an abbey brew from Bayern – a dark golden brown beer with a soft foamy head with a taste of caramel, brown sugar, dark fruit – in other words, a beer with a heavy beer taste. It is beer with a soft, but big character – a beer that will lighten the dark winter months. As with all of Braunstein’s beers, Braunstein’s Winter Bock is brewed with the finest and best natural ingredients. Winter Bock is a strong beer, which should be enjoyed after a good meal or on a cold winter’s day. Brewed: October to March Should be enjoyed at: 8 to 10 degrees

Pours out in a clear brown colour with amber edges. Low beige foam with short duration. Mild, almost weak aroma of almonds, caramel, brown sugar and metal. Malty sweet flavour of brown sugar, caramel, nuts and toasted bread with fruity hints of cherries. Medium to full-bodied with a very clean, almost sterile mouthfeel. Malty and slightly warming finish of nuts, spunned sugar and caramel.

500 ml brown bottle, courtesy of Cardinal pub, Stavanger. ABV is 8.5%. Hazy deep golden brown colour, huge off-white head. The aroma is very fruity with notes of wine vinegar and yeast, hints of caramel, oak and sweaty feet. The flavour is fairly malty with caramel, candy sugar and some fruit, moderately bitter finish. Not bad, but I’ve had better doppelbocks.

not the most inviting beer sitting there in the glassware; there was no head, the color was clear brown (like it had been watered down), and there was hardly any aroma either, but the taste put it all to rest (even though I'm enough of a snob to want a beer that gives me something for the eye) a well-balanced flavour with a rich and traditional bock-feel to it - don't be scared of it's lacking visual presentation; the taste makes up for it (without blowing you off of your seat from the strong volume :) )
