Breukelen Abbey Ale a winter seasonal beer, is brewed in the style made famous by the monastery breweries of Belgium. Abbey is made with a blend of nine European malts, and fermented with an imported Belgian yeast. Abbey is a traditionally brewed Belgian "dubbel," a strong russet-brown ale with a spicy aroma reminiscent of chocolate, cloves, dates and figs. It contains one surprising ingredient, sugar. Many Belgian beers are brewed with a type of caramelized rock candy called candii sugar. For Breukelen Abbey Ale, we use raw Dominican sugar from the nearby Domino sugar refinery.

Average. That about sums up my feelings. Very drinkable. Light bodied. If you avoid Pale Ales because they're too bitter you may enjoy this. I for one like the bitterness of a good pale ale and this one is simply too toned down for my taste. I would drink it again but will never buy it by the case.

On draft at Summit in Atlanta. I really enjoyed this beer. Reddish/amber color with a sweet nose, this is a tasty brew. The flavor is fruity/caramelly.

Poured a copper color with a small, off white head that left very light lacing on the glass. Aroma of spicy cloves, light roast and citrus, yeast and some caramel as well. Taste of dark fruit sweetness, plums and some pear as well, yeast, with a peppery alcohol finish.
