This is our most popular beer. The IPA became a style in itself. But very few people understand the Indian connection. Originally brewed in the late 1700's, the India Pale Ale was sent to the troops and British expatriates in India. And because it's intensely hopped and full-bodied, it protected people against wild yeast infections. This strong brew (with 6.0% alcohol) goes very well with grilled meats and spiced entrées.

A friend went to Singapore a few months back and brought me a couple of bottles of Brewerkz, the Belgian styled Moh Gwai and the IPA. This is very much an English IPA as can be told by it's muted hop aroma and flavour. An orange gold pour with a white head. Aroma is bready malt and floral hops. Flavour is similar.

Overall, an OK beer, but nothing truly special. Best characteristic is the appearance which is a little on the darker side of what I typically see in an IPA and a little hazy. The flavor falls flat, although it does have a nicely balanced malt, hop and alcohol content.

(2005 vintage, 7%). Hazy nutbrown colour, mediumsized head. Absolutely lovely hoppy aroma with caramellish malts. Flavour is hops and alcohol in good balance. Flavour also has some hints of hay, honey and nuts. Aftertaste is hayish and hoppy.
