BrewDog Punk IPA
BrewDog Punk IPA
Rated 3.355 by BeerPals
A beer of inherent contradiction. This heavy weight of the beer world is strikingly delicate with a white gold appearance. The light fruity aroma dominates the initial confrontation; lychee, kiwi and passionfruit all prevail with subtle nuances of cherry and strawberry. Don’t be fooled however by this smooth medium bodied ale. As it trickles down your throat as this wolf in sheep’s clothing begins to grow teeth. The bite comes as the bitterness builds and endures no matter how hard the malty sweetness of the alcohol tries to tame this ferocious beast. An exciting beer that will captivate with a whole body drinking experience.

I tried this beer on January 29, 2010 at "Smokeless Joe's" in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The beer poured a hazy yellow colour with a thin white head that quickly disappeared. The aroma was citrusy hops, with some grainy malt hints. The mouthfeel was medium bodied with medium carbonation. The flavour was grapefruit through to the end, with very little complexity.

Pours up gold with off white head and spotty lacing. The aroma offers up some roasted malts, earthy black tea notes and sort of a tart green garden salad sensation. The taste is fresh and crisp and delivers a pleasing spicy hoppiness up front followed by some modest malts and slight roasted maltiness. To midway a bit of earthiness mixes with the spicy hops and slight maltiness creating an interesting combination of flavors that works pretty well. All in all I like the taste of this new one more than the original as it seems fresher, crisper and just yummier.

330ml can into glass. Beautiful grapefruit/melon nose. Cloudy golden beer with thin white head. Very little carbonation. Creamy mouthfeel followed by developing bitterness. Not as intense as some IPA’s but VERY drinkable.

33cl bottle from Vinmonopolet, Storo. Pours clear, deep golden with a white head. Hoppy aroma wit citrus, tropical fruits, malt and caramel. Lighty sweet and malty with a pleasant fuity flavour. Well balanced with a pleasant bitterness in the finish. Decent and easy to drink IPA. (2012-10-27)

Pours clear amber with a thick eggshell head. Aroma is not strong, but promises hops and fruit. Flavor, fortunately, is far bolder than the wan aroma, hoppy but not bitter, tropical fruit note almost as strong as the hops. Texture is firm and quite lively. Get punked!

On tap at Bier Markt, Ottawa. Pours a very small amount of foamy white head and has a pale yellowish appearance. Nice thick dirty lacing. Aromas are pine and grassy hops. Has a bit of a sweetness in there. Flavours are nice and fruity, quite citrusy with notes of pine and grassy hops. Great retention. Extremely easy going down. Perfect brew for parties.

Pours a very cloudy light amber with a sub one finger head that goes down fairly quick. Nicely carbonated and is a tad on the chunky monkey side. Aroma is hoppy and has a strong hint of something I can only describe as a bar of soap from Bath & Body Works. Taste is fairly tame with hints of candy sugar, hops, and flowers. Sticky ending. Burns a bit on the way down. Interesting brew.
