http://beernews.org/2010/11/brewdog-pays-tribute-to-the-old-world/ Old World Russian Imperial Stout label copy: “Gently crafted by hand in Scotland. This Old World Stout perfectly recreates the imperial beers of years gone by; brewed to the traditional percentage of alc. 8.2% by vol. to avoid freezing during its journey across the baltic sea to snowy Moscow. All full-bodied taste, this opulent whirl of hops and malt even rivals the most colorful of imperial Fabergé eggs. Originally created to celebrate the Russian royal family. This beer is a fitting tribute with which to toast your own empire.”

hoppy and bitter chocolate bite, especially in the flavor. maybe a hint of smoke and roast too. lightish for the style, but medium-full bodied overall. a nice, fairly unique example of the style if not great. if it weren'r for the slight vegetal note in the aroma, this would be a really nice impy. still one i may revisit.

Not one of the better ones for this style. Balance seemed slightly off...pretty much like the other Brewdogs that I sampled. All a bit above average, just seems forgetable. Wanted some more hops, a little too sweet maybe, hard to tell exactly. Grabbed both the Old World IPA and Russian IPS and missed on both. Rather go with a domestic Old Rasp, Stone Russian, Stout's Fat Dog, etc...all better and cheaper than this.

Strong, smoky aroma has firm tones of molasses and chocolate as well as hints of licorice and caramel. It all but screams "Drink me!" to a lover of good stouts. It pours a dark, slightly reddish sable with a thick, fluffy, and fairly persistent tan head that leaves heavy lacing. Mouth-filling flavor has smoky, chocolate and molasses tones with hints of coffee and caramel. It is slightly sweet, which balances a subtle bitter tang. Full-bodied texture is smooth as almond milk and just fizzy enough to let you know this is beer. Very satisfying.

Jet blackness in color. A moderate sized beige head that rises briefly above. It settles into a thin ringlet and light film. The nose is light and roasty. The tasting is bland, singular for an Imperial. Roasty, coffee and cocoa in the notes. Nothing bold here. Light medium body with a oily slickness on the palate.
