471 IPA Barrel Series is a labor of love. We not only give our 471 Double IPA the luxury of time in whiskey barrels, we follow that stage with a dry hop treatment that features a new hop variety with each release. We’ve pampered it here, for you to enjoy. Featured hop, Hull Melon, offers a nice variation from the more common floral and citrus hop attributes. Traces of honey dew melon and apricot accompany the rich whiskey and slightly smoky scents that the barrels lend. Classic oaky flavors from the barrels are present beginning to end, joined by a bit of vanilla and nutmeg.

Pours clear dark amber with a thick and rather persistent eggshell head. Strongly hoppy aroma has a firm citrus undertone, mainly orange, and hints of wood, malt, spice - and, yes, whisky. No vanilla, though. Flavor presents a chord of satisfying notes: hops, whisky-infused wood, citrus, malt, spice, a hint of smoke. Is that a snippet of vanilla? Body and fizz are average, but it leaves a satisfying and pleasing finish. Hull ass to the nearest beer store that has this!

Bottle. Orange-amber pour with a tall, foamy tan head. Aroma is very fruity and sweet with soft boozy notes, vanilla and caramel. Taste is tropical fruit, caramel, vanilla, oak, booze, floral hops, light citrus and sweet malt. Body is medium with a strong, bubbly carbonation and a light alcoholic warmth. Ends with more big fruit notes, floral hops, caramel, vanilla, toasted malt and booze.
