Stouts came from the popularity of London porters. In modifying the recipe to end up with less residual sugar, they became “stout porters” and eventually kept only the word “stout” (“strong” in old English). Irish brewers refined this style in making them dryer and with a lower alcohol level, and are still the ones who produce them the most. Our Noire comes with mellow torrefied and roasted malt notes resulting in a smooth dry stout easy to drink.

Can that pours a dark brown colour, with little cola highlights. The head is frothy, darker beige with decent stay, but not much lace. Lots of molasses in the nose over the roasted malts. The molasses are also in the taste, but milder, with a blend of dark ftuits. Nothing too strong, so this is an easy-going, refreshing dry stout.

Part of mixed 8pk from brewery. Pours a good size foamy bubbly tan head and has fairly dark brown appearance. Ok lacing. Aromas of light roasted barley malts, very faint hints of resin hop. Flavours roasted malts, hints of coffee and very subtle chocolate hints. Also a bit of resin and earthy hop notes. Medium body. Average retention and carbonation. Somewhat of a watery mouthfeel. Not bad, probably the best of the mixed pack.
