500ml bottle
3.4% ABV
Main/Bronte LCBO Outlet (Milton, Ontario, Canada)
July 26, 2008
$3.25
I tried this beer on July 26, 2008 after purchasing from one of my local LCBO outlets. The beer poured a beautiful translucent red with a 1" off-white head that lingered a while. The aroma was sweet malt, and a definite hoppy sense. The mouthfeel was medium bodied, amply carbonated, and slightly bitter. The flavour was sweet malt, hops, and spicy. Easily drinkable.

Clear orange, off-white lacing foam head. Decent hoppy barley aroma and bitterness in taste. Typical English bitter, like this style and taste. Nice. (Velp 201706)

Pours a big frothy beige head and has a clear light amber appearance. Pretty thick lacing. Aromas of light toasted and sweet malts as well as earthy hops. Flavours are fairly sweet, mostly toffee and toasted malts, some notes of caramel and hints of coffee. Average carbonation. Light-medium bodied mouthfeel. Goes down pretty smoothly

Comes in a 500ml brown bottle, from the LCBO, with a best before date 13 APR 09. Pours a clear golden-copper colour with an off-white frothy head, average retention, good curvy lacing and active carbonation. Scent of brown sugar and butterscotch. Later, some nice grain stands out. Crisp mouthfeel with just a little stickiness to not make it too watery. The taste though, is kind of watered down (lacking big time in flavours). A little caramel malt and very mild hop. This one is probably a good chugger (as most bitters are - session brews). I would probably like this one, had it been brewed at 5% ABV... but really, just refreshing.

500ml bottle. Pours a clear amber-reddish ale in the mug with a sufficient rocky off white cap that has fair retention and fair lacing qualities. The nose is caramely-sweet malts with light wisps of kent golding leafyness. Interesting profile: up front caramel sewwet malts musty woody tones and twiggy hop tastes in almost a perfect 3-way balance then mid palate the hop bittering breaks out and builds til it is the dominant taste in the finish with a light caramel after tone. Decent sessioner but not at these prices.

Bottle: Poured a light clear brown color ale with a medium foamy head with average retention and some lacing. Aroma consists of light caramel malt with some dry Fuggles hops. Taste is also a mix between some dry Fuggles hops and a medium caramel malt base. I thought it was relatively well done for the style.

This is something new that has appeared in the Ontario Liquor store recently. And with 'Bitter' in the name...........how could I resist. The beer pours an orangy-brown colour with a long lasting off-white head. The aroma was very weak with some malty hints, but no hops. The flavour was nutty malt, and weakly bitter. The low alcohol content means that had there been more flavour, these would go down very easy!

Very dark amber colour, big beige head. Aroma is hops and caramel. Also lots of skunkyness. Flavour is skunked hops, grass and very earthy. Long grassy aftertaste. Not too exciting...

660 ml brown bottle, courtesy of Cardinal pub, Stavanger. Served with original Brakspear pint glass, nice! "Double dropped", ABV is 3.4%. Brewed with Maris Otter malts, Goldings and Fuggles hops. Copper coloured, low head. Aroma of "dusty" Goldings hops + rusty iron in stale water + hospital flesh wound dressings(!) Flavour is very tasty for a 3.4% pasteurised beer, nicely balanced between the malts and hops, nutty and toffee elements, not sweet. Moderate carbonation. A nice Fuggles finish.

Clear amber, rich white head. Hoppy aroma of grass lemon-rind and earth. Malty flavour, touches of caramel and cracker. Thin body. Semi-dry finish of grass and orange-peel.
