A tribute to the Gallatin Valley, this hoppin’ fresh ale is made exclusively with locally grown hops, lending a unique flavor and aroma that can only be achieved around the fall harvest. Terroir (Tear-wahr) is a French term describing the special characteristics that geography bestows upon wine and coffee. Loosely translated as "a sense of place,” it’s the sum of the effects that the local environment has on the manufacturing of a product. In this case, the soil type, geology, aspect, altitude, and cultivation are a few elements that have influenced the locally grown hops used to make this unique brew. Hops (Humulus lupulus), a climbing vine that provides beer with its bitterness and pleasant aroma, are typically dried to preserve their qualities. However, if they are used fresh or wet, a very short time after harvesting, they lend a unique flavor and aroma to the beer; a taste that can only be achieved once a year around the fall harvest. Thanks to the generosity of many Gallatin Valley residents who grow hops for home brewing and ornamental reasons, the staff and friends of Bozeman Brewing Company were able to harvest over 200 pounds of fresh or “wet” hops to put into this brew. Because of the diverse collection of hops that were harvested, we had no idea what to expect in regards to the flavor and aroma of the beer, but in the end we’re very pleased with the results. We hope you enjoy drinking this one of a kind brew as much as we do.
