This typical double with its warm dark brown color and bordeaux red undertones, has a fruity flavor that immediately makes you think of grains. You'll also find a hoppy aftertaste in this velvety soft beer. Its creamy, rich and robust head crowns this jewel of a beer.

Smokeless Joe (Toronto, Ontario, Canada)

The beer poured a translucent dark brown with a 1” tan coloured head. The aroma was a combination of yeast, malt, and some sour smells. The mouthfeel was thin to medium bodied, with champagne like carbonation. The flavour was yeasty, heavily spiced, with a nice malty taste. A very good beer.

Pours clear copper with a thick and fairly persistent beige head. Aroma presents fruity and toasted malt notes. Flavor kicks these both up a notch and adds caramel and a touch of resiny hops to the mix. Mouthfeel offers good body and fair fizz. Lucky monks, living on this for 40 days!

Pours dark brown with a tan head that dissipates quickly. Strong hints of raisin and malt. Puts me in mind, strangely of the old Schneider Aventinus Weizenbock. A bit less flavourful than a Chimay Premier to be honest, but still well worth a punt. Good stuff!

Pours a chestnut brown with a low tan head. Immediate sweet followed by an odd sour dark fruit. Malty with yeast and dark fruit and sugar. All in all very drinkable.

Aromas of banana, plum, cinnamon, and spices were all present. The body is a deep ruby/ brown, not any head or lace. Mouthfeel is medium, with some stickiness, and sharp from the carbonation. Flavor was mostly plum, caramel, hay with a alcohol presence. Overall it was decent enough.

BB 23 07 11. Pours into my Maredsous glass a really nice brownish red with a big tan head. Head fades to a small layer but does stick around for a bit. Good lacing. I didn't get a super foamy beer as some other reviewers did. Aroma is pretty standard for a dubbel, strong malt prescence, bit of fruit, earthy, spicey. Flavour is nice with yeast, malt, a bit of alcohol, slight bitter finish. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with lots of carbonation. A little too much carbonation for me. Overall a solid dubbel. I'm going to get some more and let them age a bit.

Belgian Ale into my Ommegang glass. Deep scarlet-brown colored ale. Big frothy light tan head. Some hang time. Settles into a ring surrounding a light dusting. The aromas of sweet caramel malts, yeasts and ever so subtle fruits like cherries. A medium bodied ale. Smooth, alcohol sharpened and smooth. In the taste not as sweet as the aromas might suggest. Some fruit. Not bad. Not bad at ALL.

I don't think I can accurately put into words just how much foam this beer made when poured. Mouthfeel was a little thin. Tastes of tart/sour cherries. Not a lot of alcohol in the flavor or the aroma. Taste is rather lifeless, but finishes very clean. Overall, pretty uninteresting, but it was cheap.

Another in a long line of solid Abbey Dubbels from the European Lowlands. The beer is a sold brown colour with a long lasting head. The aroma is fruity and yeast-based. The flavour is rich with dark malty flavours, figs, yeast.....and a bitter finish.
