Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

From notes: Pours dark black, with just some hints of light seeping through the edges. The head reaches about one finger in height, and then fades very slowly to a solid cap that leaves behind a very solid lacing. Smell; you definitely can smell the bourbon, but it's not as overpowering to me as some others that I've had. Vanilla beans and coconut are present, as well as a little chocolate, and some molasses. Taste; as with the aroma the bourbon as the initially what you taste, but then the other flavors come through. Vanilla and chocolate, some dark fruits and molasses and just some hints of coffee. Mouthfeel was bodied and very creamy, with a nice smooth carbonation, and though some alcohol was detectable, I didn't think it detracted from the overall drinkability. This made for a very nice after dinner beer.

Comes out of the bottle a deep, opaque coffee sable with an average tan head. Rich, smoky, chocolaty, coffee-ish aroma has just a touch of sweetness and is very appetizing. Rich flavor is rather sweet and slightly bitter, and has woody, fruity and coffee components with a hint of unsweetened chocolate. Texture is fairly smooth and nicely fizzy with a firm but not fierce bourbon bite.

I found this bottle in my beer cellar and I'm not sure how long it's been there, but it has aged well. Opaque coffee color, poured without a head. It's definitely got a boozy vanilla bourbon aroma, but there's a hint of smoky acidity or even soy sauce in there. That vanilla bourbon takes a backseat, however, to the woody char flavor, and the alcohol is gone. There's some underlying bitter chocolate enhancing the vanilla, and a little nuttiness, but, again, that's beneath the woody char. Smooth, velvety, and warming, not too much fizz and kind of lightweight for an imperial stout. Simple and delicious.

pours pitch black color with a medium sized light tan head that settles down to a thin cap with a decent amount of lacing and retention. The aroma is of burnt malts, milk chocolate, cheap bourbon and a touch of vanilla sweetness, but the char is rather dominating with no hints of oxidation. The taste is incredibly tame and mellow with roasted malts, coffee beans, milk chocolate, vanilla, and oak with almost no bourbon presence. The mouthfeel is thin to medium with ample carbonation.

I went with this at a recent dinner party because a friend recommended it as 'The best shit I ever tasted'. I assume he's a lifelong BMC or Molbatts friend. It's good, but not outstanding. For a stout, it's a bit light in colour and body. The bourbon is certainly noticeable which should please fans of barrel aged beers.

This Imperial Stout pours a deep eclipse black color from a 12oz bottle. Medium sized beige foamy head. Aroma is chocolate, coffee, roasted malts, some vanilla and bourbon. The bourbon flavors intensify as the beer warms. A medium to full bodied Imperial Stout. Malts are chocolate, coffee, roasty malts, with some vanilla and bourbon. The bourbon flavors are somewhat subdued. Touch of oak and wood. Kind of subtle tasting. The barrel aging smoothes the malt flavors. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet with some bourbon.

This beer smells very much like bourbon but hardly tastes like it. I would agree with fellow BPs Slowrunner77 and Blues&BBQ that this beer is thin and mild for a barrel aged stout. This isn't to say that i didn't enjoy it but it was a tad weak for me taste. I picked this up @ the Wine Gourmet in Roanoke, Va.

i kinda agree with blues on this one - who just happened to provide this brew! much less bourbon than expected...defnitely in the aroma, but the flavor too. More subtle chocolate and vanilla, minimal hops. it was a little thin for a 10.5 impy stout, but smooth and very drinkable for a beer of that strength. nice lingering semi-sweet finish. overall, it falls into the good but not great catergory. for the price, I'd go with Bourbon County, given the choice, but thid was nice. the beer looked great once it stopped foaming wildly, but that took a few, so i gotta knock the "appearance" a point.

Pours a dark brown with a thick tan head that is present throughout leaving lots of lacing. Not a lot of bourbon in the aroma but quite a bit of vanilla, a slight oak/nutiness, sweet malts and a touch of hops. Taste is slightly sweet, still not much bourbon, some vanilla oak, and a bit of hops. Better on draft - which I've had since first review - duly noted.

Finishing my second 4-pack of this brew, and read a bunch of reviews from various sources. Whatever this beer's got, I'm missing it. Poured into a snifter, nice black color, not much head, no lacing to speak of. Nose is malt and coffee, maybe a little oak, no discernable bourbon. Mouthfeel is remarkably thin, for the style. Taste is coffee, oak, and, finally, a little bourbon tang. The bourbon gets a little more pronounced toward the bottom of the glass. When it's done, it's done, very little aftertaste in the finish. Go figure; I like the brewery, but this one just leaves me scatching my head. What am I missing, and why am I missing it?

Bottle courtesy of bluesandbarbq, aroma of burbon, some chocolate, vanilla and werthers candy, Mouthfeel is kinda thin for the style but its o.k. Flavor is intially burbon with bitter roasted coffe notes, hints of vanilla and caramel, not much aftertaste. Overall a decent brew, thanks Louis.
