We’ve used Midnight Wheat Malt to add smooth and silky roast character and rich black colour this paradox of a beer. Dark and menacing on the outside… Crisp, clean and fresh on the inside…

I was quite impressed with the black lager. While some badly made schwarzbiers lack the roasted feel of a good German schwarzbier, this has it all. Beautiful black pour, decent brown head. Roasted malt and coffee make up most of the aroma, possibly some cherry. Roasted malt dominates the flavour with hints of coffee and chocolate. Hopefully some of these brands make it out of downtown Toronto.

The beer pours a beautiful black colour with a decent sized brown head. Aroma is very stout like with plenty of roasted malt, coffee, and chocolate. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with medium carbonation. Flavour is roasted malt, somewhat mild coffee notes, and some yeastiness. A slight metallic aftertaste, but overall, quite enjoyable.
