Marshmallows + chocolate: a vexing combination to have stuck to your hands ‘round a summer campfire, but the s’more-like flavours pair perfectly in this roasty, velvety chocolate-marshmallow-hemp stout. Vanilla and maple syrup used at the end of the beer-making process impart further complexity and an exquisite dessert-like decadence. History & Style The base milk stout style benefits from the addition of 18 kg of organic chocolate, 10 kg of cocoa nibs, and 20 kg of hemp seeds to achieve chocolatey goodness, restrained nuttiness and a silky mouthfeel. The use of marshmallow leaf in the brew is a tip of the hat to the origins of the modern “guimauve” confection, and lends a mild herbal, tea-like quality to the beer. Sometimes, there's a beer, well, it’s the beer for its time and place. It fits right in there. And that's Ellsmere’s Regret. Tasting Notes Aromas of chocolate and roasted malts give way to hints of vanilla and nuts. The flavours of dark chocolate and cocoa meld with roasty malts and are offset by a scintillating syrupy sweetness and a whisper of vanilla. Food Pairings Gumbo with Andouille sausage, reuben sandwich, s’mores Technical Specs Alc./Vol.: 5.5% Ingredients: Local Spring Water, Organic Barley Malts, Organic Hops, Organic Hemp Seed, Organic Lactose, Organic Chocolate, Organic Cocoa Nibs, Organic Marshmallow Leaf, Maple Syrup, Vanilla Extract & Brewer’s Yeast. Thanks to PaleAleRider for picking this one at the brewery for me. Pours a dark brown colour with a small beige cap, average retention and not much lace. Big coffee aromas over the roasted malt. Hints of dark fruits eventually appear. Flavours of roasted/chocolate malts soften by light vanilla notes and hops giving a small dry finish. No marshmallow though. An easy-drinking stout, but not what I expected. Cool Jason Voorhees fun campy label.

On tap at D'Arcy McGees during Beau's FeBREWary. Pours a small foamy brownish cap and has a dark brown appearance. Aromas are mainly dark roasted malts, coffee, light caramel notes. Somewhat of a wood-sy like aroma as well. Flavours of chocolate, some very faint hint of the hemp seeds, more of a grassiness in the finish. Definitely some sweetness in this one. Almost a bit of smokiness too. Has subtle notes of cocoa and vanilla. Not much bitterness, many flavours to compensate. Oily and slick sensation on the palate. Really nice and smooth beer that won't get you high :p
