In honour of the 200th anniversary of the start of the War of 1812, Barley Days Brewery has announced the upcoming release of a new limited edition beer named after one of the most important sea vessels of the war. Royal George Brown Ale gets its name from HMS Royal George, an English warship that fought off an attack by a squadron of seven American ships in Kingston harbour on Lake Ontario in November 1812. The label features a painting of the bottle by artist Peter Rindlisbacher. The beer is a traditional brown ale inspired by British ales of the 19th century. It will be officially launched at the brewery on Monday June 18th as part of Ontario Craft Beer Week, and will be available in bottles at the brewery store and select LCBO outlets while supplies last.

On tap at Arrow and Loon. Beer menu lists abv as 4.5%. Pours a big foamy off-white head and dissipates to a thin coating. Weak lacing. Has a dark amber appearance. Aromas are malty and wheaty. Flavours are mostly malts, some notes of spices in the mix, maybe even a bit of cinnamon. Medium bodied mouthfeel. Average carbonation. Pretty good.
