Our winter strong ale has a gorgeous mahogany hue, a hint of hazelnuts, and a finish reminiscent of mocha and toffee. No spices, just a perfect blend of five specialty malts. Cellarable for 2 years.

It pours a dark brown color. Nice aroma of the roasted malts. It's a nice Ale. Avery brewing is slowly becoming one of my favorites. The flavor is nice.

Dark brown pour with a thin tan ring of a head and decent lacing. Roasted malt, ripe fruit & nutty with a hint of choclate aroma. Flavor is similar with a hint of alcohol. Decent.

Pours out a reddish brown root bear color with no head. The aromas are very faint. The mouthfeel is thick and pleasant. The taste is very well blended with notes of wood which I guess is the hazel nuts. I like the blend even though it's not heavy or complex. Avery never seems to disappoint.

pours a muddy deep brown with small toffee colored head, OK retention, decent lacing. The aroma has lots of caramel, wood, licorice, toffee and some warming alcohol. The taste is of dark fruits, sweet caramel and chocolate, wood, abundant alcohol and black licorice. The mouth feel is medium bodied, the alcohol negatively impacts the drinkability, although the beer itself is light for the style. Appropriate carbonation

Pour kinda a dark burgundy brown with a very nice sized head. Aroma is something I have never smelled in a beer before. Detect strong hints of nuts, roasted malts and a generally earthy tone. Very little to no carbonation. taste is very earthy with hints of nuts and alchohol. Very warming. Remind me a a fine dry wine. I like it.

Malty aroma has fruity and subtle woody and nutty notes. Pours a clear chocolate brown with a fairly thick light cinnamon-tan head that doesn't stick around too long but leaves some good lacing. Flavor has a malty core and nutty, caramel and woody hops notes plus a hint of sweet chocolate. Smooth texture has good body and fizz, quite lively. Start the party!

2011 vintage--had a bottle in 2011 and one last week; plan to save a bottle or 2 to try next year. Brownish red pour with a decent off-white head. This is a pretty average winter warmer--lots of bready malt, toffee and sweetness with faint dark fruits and alcohol heat playing around the edges.

This beer was a huge letdown (2009 vintage). A reddish-brown pour with very little head. Lots of roasted malt, dark fruits, and butterscotch in the aroma. Flavour profile is similar with the roastiness subdued by a sourness I can't place.

12 Beers of Christmas - beer number 4. A dark brwon pour with a thin creamy head and nice lacing. Roasted malts, some ripe fruits, lots of nuts, bittersweet chocolate and a very slight whiskey in the rich aromas. Taste is rich with the roasted malts an d nuts upfront then some fruits and burnt sugar and again a touch of whiskey. Nice brew.

dark brown color with a small light brown head leaving little lace. Aroma is dark fruits, roasty malts and alcohol. Mouthfeel is medium to full bodied and slightly oily. Flavor mirrors the aroma pretty well with the malty flavor dominating, also a light toffee flavor develops as the beer warmed.

Sampled on draught at Dexter's in Madison: Pours a deep mahogany colour with a medium sized creamy beige top. Aroma is very nutty with a little burned toast mixed in. Taste is creamy with roasted malts and strong caramel notes on the finish.
