Due to the fact that Augustijn, just like the other heavy Van Steenberge beers, undergoes secondary fermentation in the bottle or in the keg, the taste becomes more full-bodied and mature the longer the beer evolves. Secondary fermentation is a process that takes place when a small amount of yeast and sugar is added to the beer when packaged into the bottle or keg. These are converted into alcohol and carbon dioxide at a temperature of about 25° C, which is what creates the specific flavor. Every occasion is a good occasion to enjoy an Augustijn. Augustijn is a beer that is appreciated at all kinds of receptions because of its mild and soft yet rich flavor! 8.2 % alcohol by volume, 16 ° Plato amber colored beer with secondary fermentation in the bottle or in the keg shelf life: at least 2 years after bottling date available in: small bottles 33 cl; bottles 75 cl, 1.5 l, 3 l; kegs 30 l.

Purchased at Liquor Control Board of Ontario store. Part of a Holiday 6 pack. Very tripel-like in looks, smell, and flavour. A hazed dark gold pour with an average sized white head. Aroma is yeast, grain, citrus, and light fruit. Flavour is very yeasty with notes of grass and light fruit, and a spicy finish.

Pours a fairly thick foamy white head that leaves some dirty lacing. Has a slightly hazy orange appearance. Citrus and floral hop aromas, mainly oranges and mandarins. Has flavours of Belgian yeast, oranges, some sweet malts and spices in the finish. Excessive carbonation, prickly and tingling sensation. Medium bodied. Pretty good overall, nothing sensational for a Belgian brew.

Aroma of apples, dough and yeast. Typically a little too carbonated, but the flavor is nicely fruity, green apple, slight spice. Easy drinking. 8%. Nice.

330 ml capped bottle. Poured in the original Augustijn chalice an unfiltered hazy rich golden-amber coloured B A with a one finger light beige foamy head that had a short retention and tons of micro bubbles. Soft carbonation. No lacing. The aroma is sweety caramel malts and fruity, sour apples, citrus. The flavour is heavy bitter, yeasty, sour apples, citrus. The mouthfeel is fizzy, prickly and badly surprising.. watery, watery. This medium boided B A has a dry bitter finish. Decent ? May be, but a quite not exiting Belgian ale.

330 ml stubby bottle, bought at Voldby Købmandsgård, Denmark. ABV is now 7% - seems to vary quite a bit. Pale yellow colour, slightly hazy, huge and white head lasts "forever". Fairly nice aroma of spices and Belgian ale yeast. The flavour is mildly spicy with moderate notes of white candi sugar, not too sweet, quite nice. Moderate hops. Light bodied for its strength, alcohol is well hidden, pleasant to drink.

Pours a hazy golden yellow with a white head. Aroma is a little stinky. Mouthfeel is carbonated. Flavors of yeast and citrus are prominent. All around good but not great.

Aromas of Belgian yeasts, spices, and some maltiness. Body was orange copper with plenty of carbonation which kept the sediment dancing around. The head was a thick creamy off white, good retention and lace. Flavor was a little fruit and a little spice, alcohol was barely noticeable, mouthfeel was hearty. Overall i liked it, a nice 'heavy' blonde.

THis came in a 6 pack of Belgians I bought recently. This is a cloudy golden colour with a 1" white bubbly head. The aroma was grainy malt, some hops, and yeast. Very tripel like. The flavour was yeast, malt, and hops. Go0od, but not great.
