Black, small light brown foam ring. Light caramel aroma. Smooth taste, light sweet, light bitter. Not much more to be said about this beer, but just another Japan tick. (Houston 201501)

A jet black colored beer with a big frothy textured light tam head rising above. There's good hang time on the head. A very thin ringlet. A light coffee on the nose. Bolder roasted malt in the tasting. A thin bodied beer. Good tasting though.

Pours a lovely pitch black body with good head, tan and big and proud and leaves nice lacing. The aroma is lovely, malt and a hint of toffee. The taste is dark indeed malty and a hint of liquorice slightly sweet but just slightest bitterness. The mouthfeel is a very thin mouthfeel but good carbonation.

It pours a tempting cola brown, nearly opaque, with a thin tan head - but the latter may be an artifact of the waitress' pour. Aroma is crisp and malty with hints of molasses and caramel. Flavor is crisp and malty, like a typical lager but with a stout-like undertone of molasses and a hint of smoke. Texture is fairly smooth and tingly, rather typical. A good one to have at a Japanese restaurant.

I had this at Sushi Damo in NYC on 330 W. 58th St. while enjoying some of the best rolls I have ever had. This beer was perfect with the meal. The body was thin and light on the palate. The flavor was slightly bitter with hints of spice and coffee against a balanced malt backbone. It had poor head retention but that could have been a product of the pour. In the end, this was EASILY the best Japaneese beer I've ever had - it's worth a try.

It pours a very dark brown-red with no head and no lace. A faint aroma of roasted malts, light hops, some citrus and berry, and mild spice. The mouthfeel is smooth and rich. Flavors of roasted malts, light licorace, coffee beans, light hops, citrus, and spices. Not bad!

a better than expected predecessor to sushi. pours like a sam adams black lager. similar aroma too. a little thin and light on the palate, but the flavor is a nice, rich, malty brew. overall...good with food. kinda average/boring on it's own, but the best Japanese beer i've had.

It pours a black body with decent carbonation, and head. Roasted malts and hints of chocolate. Flavor is similar to the aroma, with slightly thin mouthfeel. Overall it was better than i thought it would be, not bad at all.

Off to a good start with a four-fingered foamy tan head capping a quite dark (but not black) body. Aroma was dark, too, with some nice dark malt notes and probably some hop undertones. Flavour was not really to my liking, being "burnt", and I found the mouthfeel on the light side. So-so finish, maybe a bit sweet. I was disappointed with this beer.

Nice chocolaty nose, but the flavour is much more complex than that. Oak mingled with roasted nuts to make a perfect beverage for a cold winter's night
