Shared with 4 others @ The Flying Saucer.. 2008 vintage .. . Pours a deep brown eggplant skin .. . lots of dark fruit, raisin, tart molasses, and light bourbon soaked wood .. . has aged quite nicely .. . I never apologize, I'm sorry but that's the way I am.

I'm not sure that this beer is for me. A dark reddish beer, slightly clear, aith a thin tan head. The aroma is sweet malt, molasses, maple sugar, and any other sweetness you can think of. The flavour is sickly sweet as well. Too sweet for me, despite the alcohol content.

This poured an amber apperance with a moderate white head. The aroma contains some oak, dark fruit like raisins, and spices. The flavor is rather sweet and malty with some caramel, raisins, molasses, and a tad bit of the alcohol showing. Overall a nice beer.

Bottled: March 2008-650 cases bottled. Aroma is very nice with some malty sweetness as well as some yeasty overtone and some spice with some caramelization coming through as well as some faint, dark fruit with some woody overtones with a touch of bourbon. Appearance is a clear, very dark burgundy-amber in color when held to the light with a mammoth head on top that is off-white in color and does not diminish much and leaves creamy and uneven lacing on the glass. Mouthfeel is medium-bodied with some good malty balance as well as spicy complexity with a palate that is wet-like and very smooth given the alcohol. Flavor is of malty sweetness with some darkened fruit with some slight spice note and some toffee with an aftertaste that is a tad yeasty with some woody overtone as well as some faint bourbon and has a finish that is of strong maltiness with virtually no alcohol present. Overall, a pretty good example of the scotch ale variety but, in my opinion, seems a tad on the "lighter" side and not as hearty as I expected but, nonetheless, definitely recommended...

Bottled. Amber colour, mediumsized beige head. Aroma is wood, lots of nectar, some pine and also a bit leathery and berryish notes. Flavour is fruits, spices, herbs, some berries, yeast and mild leatheryness in the background.

Tasted at Noogfest 4.0 (2008). This scotch ale pours a light brown color from a 750ml bottle. Small to medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is caramel and sweet, touch of bourbon and smoke. A medium bodied Scotch ale. The malts are fruity, caramel and sweet, yet it is kind of estery and yeasty. The hops are floral and earthy. Touch of bourbon as well. Nice carbonation. Nice beer. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and crisp. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

Batch 260 - 2006 Vintage - Received via trade, with whom though I can't recall. I'm usually down with most beers Allagash produces and that didn't change with this one either. It reminded me in so many ways of a barrel aged Maudite (if that were to ever exist) it wasn't funny, and then to find out it's supposed to be a Scotch Ale?
The beer pours out medium brown color, cloudy with a nice two-finger thick head. Aroma is decidedly dark fruits, spices, bourbon and wood. The beer has a slight prickly mouthfeel. Flavors are dark fruits, a caramel-malt yeastiness, and more bourbon and oak notes. This was an above average beer and surprisingly sweet. -

Sampled at the North Park Belgian Beer Party at my house on 3-29-08. Pours with a slightly cloudy, amber-brown body topped by a thin, off-white head with some lacing. It’s bitter and peppery with an underlying sweetness and a spicey note. Full bodied and fizzy.

Bottle: Poured a deep copper color ale with a big foamy head with good retention and small lacing rings. Aroma of sweet malt with some notes of light oak. Taste is dominated by a big sweet malt base with some toffee notes. The bourbon and the alcohol were not discernable. I was expecting more peat malt and less sweetness but I enjoyed this one very much even thought it stray very much from the style guideline.Bottle: Poured a mahogany color ale with a huge foamy head with some good retention and some lacing. Aroma of sweet malt with some dry with some dry Czech hops. Taste is also dominated by those sweet malt with limited dry fruits characteristics or oak notes. Body is quite full with some great carbonation and no alcohol was noticeable. Interesting but definitely not the best from this usually fine brewery.

Pours out in a fazy brown colour with a rich tan-coloured foam. Yeasty aroma of coconut, wood, dried fruit and spices. Full creamy flavour of nuts, toffee, yeast, coconut and figs. Full-bodied. Spicy finish with touches of wood and toffee.
