The original winter warmer, Tally-Ho is actually a barley wine brewed to a nineteenth century recipe. It's sweet; it's heart-warming; it's rich - but watch out, it's got a kick like a drayman's horse!

Dark ruby red, small light brown lacing foam head. Aroma is bit smokey, some fruity notes. Small cookie dough tones, bittersweet fruity taste. Aftertaste turning light bitter. (Velp 201410)

330 ml capped bottle, as a 7.2% ABV. Poured in a chalice glass a clear rich-burgundy coloured E B W with half a finger beige foamy head that had a short retention and many micro bubbles. Low carbonation. No lacing. The aroma is roasted malts, coffee beans and alcoholic notes. The flavour is roasted malts, dark fruits, plums, hints of smoke and a spicy touch, licorice. The mouthfeel is light crispy, fizzy, sparkling and light sirupy. The texture is a bit oily. This full bodied E B W has a long roasted and alcoholic finish and the usual warming effect. Because a pronounced alcoholic feeling is this ale a not easy drinkable English Barley Wine

330 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Bottle conditioned, ABV is 7.2%. Mahogany coloured beer, big beige head. Vinous aroma, notes of raisins and other dark dried fruits, also hints of caramel. The flavour is fairly malty and moderately sweet (but not as sweet as I expected), with hints of dark dried fruits and caramel again, while the finish is biscuity dry with noticeable hops. Fairly bitter aftertaste.

Cask@White Horse, Parsons Green, London. Very deep amber colour, close to black. Mediumsized brown head. Aroma is nuts, chocolate, burnt sugar as well as some liquorice. Flavour is much the same but also has some very ashy notes to it. Pleasant balance.

Have tried this in many guises - all gravity dispensed - best was 4 year old from oak cask. Anyway always on the money -ruby red, with off white small head. some lacing to side of glass, great gobbets of fruit/leather/tobacco/licorice fantastic beer.

Clear, dark ruby brown colour. Thick long lasting tan head. Rish malty aroma of light chocolate, figs, pear, butter with acidic undertones of raspberries and wood. Malty flavour of black chocolate and toffee with delicate vinous undertones of black cherries and raspberries. Long, woody finish with notes of herbal hops and tart raspberries. Quite good stuff!

Cocoa and tea body with an ok head. English. Flat cola, prunes and brown sugar in the flavor. Ther's very little hops in the flavor or aroma. It's mellow with a lingering sweetness.

I have had this beer many times. Great flavor, aroma and color. A very small head, minimal carbination. At 7% ABV can drink several. Not exactly a session beer but close. Highly recommended if you can find it!
