The Ace Hill Pilsner is a testament to quality and simplicity – a crisp, clean beer with the right balance of smoothness and character for any occasion. Made with a contemporary approach rooted in a rich heritage, we develop a water profile similar to the glacial springs of Eastern Europe, where the Pilsner style originated, and combine it with the highest quality Old World grains and Noble hops. No corners are cut as the beer is given the time it needs to come into its own. It may be harder and take longer to make than other beers, but that’s why we like it.

The beer pours a translucent medium gold colour with a generous foamy white head which receded faster than you can type out the letter ‘I’. The aroma was grainy malt and earthy hops. The mouthfeel was medium bodied with average carbonation. The flavour was grainy malt with a bitter hop finish. This beer is not a bad beer, but it isn’t a good beer either.

Tallboy from local Foodland. Pours a massive frothy creamy white head, good retention, has a yellowish straw coloured appearance. Big thick sticky lacing. Aromas are floral, grains, grassy and very light citrus. Flavours are light floral and grass notes, very subtle citrus hints. Smooth and silky mouthfeel. Somewhat of a dry finish. Not bad.

Can. Colour - light yellow, very transparent, huge head. Aroma - cereal and biscuit malt, herbal hops, spices. Mouthfeel - light bodied, thin. Flavour - typical graint pilsner notes, some herbal hoppiness in the finish. A rather disappointing beer.

If we could give half ratings, the "Appearance" rating would be 6.5 as it's slightly better than average, but not by a full value. Nice thick head that lasts but really, really pale. One of them ones that's better out of the glass than straight out of the can. Out of the can it has that sweet German pils front with a Bohemian Pils backing. Out of the glass it loses that sweetness and the grassiness comes more to the forefront. Mouthfeel is sticky and thick, especially on the roof of the mouth. Best thing about it is its nose, where again you can denote both a sweetish and a grassy smell.

Pours a slight hazy, light golden-yellow colour with a foamy white cap, average retention and some decent lace. Grainy cereal malt nose with the pils hops showing up with time. Malty start taste with a mild richness, sweetness to it. Always grainy, cereal notes that end up with the hops. Nothing too crazy, well-done simple Pilsner, but a slight too rich in the taste to be a refreshing brew - or to have too many.
