A craft version of a classic Mexican-style light lager. We’ve always been intrigued by light beer. Widely enjoyed. Highly crushable. Waistline friendly. We weren’t in love with many of the light beers out there and wanted to provide a craft option for the category. The Ace Hill Light is inspired by the great light lagers of Mexico. In a nod to the style, we used high-quality flaked corn to facilitate an extra smooth body. To provide a craft spin, we balanced the profile with Wakatu hops, a favourite for craft brewers. The result is a light beer with a nice touch of character. This release also carries forward our interest in sessionable lagers from different brewing traditions around the world, joining the arc of our Pilsner (Czech) and Vienna Lager (Austrian).

The beer pours a translucent pale straw colour with a generous white head which sticks around a couple of minutes. The aroma is cereal grains, weak herbal hops, and some spicy notes. The mouthfeel is thin to medium bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is weak grainy malt with a bitter hop finish. Not a lot going for this one. Very bland.

Pours a clean light-golden colour with a big white frothy head, good retention and lacing. Mild maltiness in the nose with something else which is a little off, like yeasty sourness. The taste is also malty, very light, but decent cereal notes. Almost crisp mouthfeel. Corn is well-hidden. Nothing too special, but quite nice for a light 4% brew.

Picked up a can at the local Foodland. Pours a huge foamy white head and has a straw coloured appearance. Big thick dirty lacing. Lively carbonation. Aromas of grains, wheats and light herbs. Flavours are mostly sweet malts, wheat, grains and mild floral and herbal hops. Light bodied. Fairly smooth mouthfeel. Quite refreshing but still pretty average light beer.

Can. Colour – straw gold, weak white cap, plenty of effervescence. Aroma – light cereal grains, herbal hops, wet grass, mustiness. Mouthfeel – medium bodied, well carbonated. Flavour – grass, hops, slightly bitter. Doesn’t stand up well to the pilsener
