Black IPA. In ancient times, The Imperator was the supreme commander who led his troops to victory, just as today’s Mardi Gras lieutenants kick off the carnival parades. Abita Imperator is a robust, black IPA brewed with pale, caramel, chocolate and black malts. It commands your attention with an intense hop flavor and aroma provided by Apollo, Cascade, Centennial, Citra, Mosaic and Amarillo hops. With a mighty malt flavor and intense black color, the Abita Imperator reigns supreme.

Strongly hoppy aroma reaches the ol’ beezer from half a meter away; closer in, and you get roast malt and a bit of coffee. It pours a rich, warm coffee brown that lets in a peep of daylight at the bottom and has a thick, fine-bubbled, persistent buff head. Flavor is hoppy like IPA, smoky like stout, with coffee, chocolate, even molasses hints. Finish is smoky and earthy; texture is smooth and fairly firm if not too fizzy. If not the "Imperator" of black IPAs, one that is fit for a general.
